It's Chinese. I have one, a lefty 4005. It literally took itself apart in one month, the set neck popped out of it. I'm glad it did, as a Luthier, I rebuilt it and it is a pretty good instrument now.
600 bucks for a Chickenbacker, is way too much. If you talk him down to half that, buy it. It would be a decent beater bass.

Treble pickup cover and the crazy loose roller $30 bridge is a dead give away. I didn't even need to look any further. Guy probably paid $400 tops for it brand new. He's trying to flip it for a $200 profit.

Also... OMG that headstock. They weren't even trying when they did that.

Yep. At the right price, and with a lot of love and $, they can be a lot of fun. This, is NOT the right price.

A fairly honest and accurate review. It actually doesn't sound bad through his recording rig, and he's a good player, but watch to the end when he actually issue a verdict. Sounds like.. a cheap P-Bass Copy? ,Maybe? Anything more than the $250 he paid is a true ripoff. I've played one in person and... yeah. Bad. Replace the bridge, pickups, electronics, nut, and frets and you'll have... a bass with no resale value because it's a counterfeit.

These things have no midrange clang at all, but some of them do have really useful tones in their own right.

And then there's This Guy, who has a 5-part series wherein he spends a lot of time and money upgrading a Chickenbacker. Don't know what he spent overall, probably a few hundred anyway. With OEM Ric pups, it sounds.... sorta like a Ric.

That guy just won't admit defeat. You can't possibly upgrade one of these things to sound like a Ric (and I have one of these things) but they are fun. If you want something you can really go out and play, you wanna be looking at a Squier CV Jazz, Jaguar, or P. Actually, the 50s CV P in sunburst is kinda hot. I think I want one.

The VM Jazz is pretty nice, sorry I missed the boat before Fender realized they were outshining their overpriced flagships and raised the price on them. I just wish they made a 70' s style sunburst with rosewood bound and blocked neck, one if my Bucket Basses.
