help learning a non common technique

Helo everyone,
excellent Swedish bass player Bjorn Meyer is using in this video HERE a technique halfway between pizzicato and thumb I'd love to learn but cannot exactly make out.

Can anyone help out please?

Good luck. I never did get that thumb-finger pattern going on 6 string guitar or the bass. However, I think it would just take time and a lot of practice.

Did not fit with what I played so I did not give it the time it would take.

Looks to me like he is using "pima" which is the standard technique for classical guitar. Any classical guitar instructor can teach you this technique. If you prefer books to teachers, then I recommend Scott Tennant's "Pumping Nylon."

It is all acoustic so the stand up bass is always nodded into a circle.

Around the court house you are nodded into a circle. At the RV parks, just drag up a chair and join in.

Gotta agree with Mushroo..... Bjorn Meyer is just using classical guitar technique with the plucking hand. And why not? It IS a guitar after all, just lower in pitch. There's no reason not to use established techniques.
