help locating 15" speaker

Your best bet is to call Ampeg and see if they have any stock of the speaker or if recone kits are available. Typically there is an agreement with Eminence, so that Eminence will not sell drivers are recone kits without permission. I.E. contacting Eminence is unlikely to produce an original replacement.

If parts are not available, you have a couple of options.

Buy a cheap used cab with a good driver and cannibalize. [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]
This could be risky as the driver may be damaged or non-original.

Select a new driver that will work in the cab. If you want matched performance, you will need to replace the drivers in both cabs.

I can tell you right now the likelihood of them having any left is nil. There is a place in St. Louis called LS Electronics that does have some leftover Ampeg stuff from when they sold to LOUD, but I have no idea if they have any, and I wouldn't get my hopes up too big. And there is an outside chance that Gregg Hopkins at Vintage Amp Repair might have one, but again, don't be surprised if he doesn't. They've been disco'd for a pretty long time at this point.

A good while ago, the prevailing opinion was that heavier was almost synonymous with being "heavy duty". It meant a cab was built to be sturdy, and the drivers had big, beefy magnets with large voice coils to handle a lot of power and go loud. Then neodymium stuff came out and some boutique brands started to come out with lightweight stuff with neodymium drivers that got loud and worked just fine, and perceptions have changed.

Also, lots of brands that made cheap stuff tended too build out of MDF, which is cheaper than plywood but much heavier.

Or google 'Eminence speaker 109 oz magnet 4" voice coil'. That combination is rare. You'd find out that it was probably built on the same frame with the same motor as the Magnum 15 or Definimax 15, but even knowing that you can't be sure of an exact match.

There were 4 driver families that Eminence manufactured with 4" VC and a 109 oz magnet, they are/were the Omega (by far the most common), the Magnum (which had a goofy aluminum "bullet" under a coarse screen dust cap, the Definimax which has a ring vent on the back plate, and the Kilomax pro which my paperwork shows having a dual spider and a ring vent on the back plate as well as a funny vent on the front.

The Omega platform (usually customized) is by far the most common

Uh... Horse, that's 4 families.

Anyway, I agree with the prevailing opinion. It seems unlikely you'll turn up a usable OEM match that is not in one of those same cabs. Which said cabs came out roughly 20+ years ago (I remember Les Claypool using them on the Antipop tour) and I don't think they were around all that long. It's possible the same speakers were used in another cab model, but I doubt it. But you could start by looking through their other 15 based models around that time to see if there are any likely matched.

But the easier way to do it would be to figure out the cab's internal volume and tuning frequency (you could do the "rice test" on the working cab to find out the tuning), and then model some currently available drivers until you find one that you like, and put those in both cabs.

But if you're really using these for home audio subs, which they are not at all designed for (the tweeters kind of give it away), by the time you spend about $500 on a pair of Faital 15PR400s or something like that, you could have gotten much better results putting that money elsewhere. BUT, if you wanted to use these for bass, I'm sure there is something suitable out there that's either currently available new, or at least findable on the used market.

Otherwise the cast frame Legend CB158 would work just as fine.

Or use the Very popular Kappalite 3015
To change over to Neo

Funny thing is they made 4x10 version in this series and it weighs almost as much as a 810 lol from the same particle board era.

Likewise. These cabinets come up on the used market often. Since new driver with shipping will be around 180 to 230$
You might find a complete cabinet with original 4" voicecoil driver used for 150/200$

Correct.

Eminence doesn't sell recone kits for stamp steel drivers.

But they do sell recone kits for cast frame drivers.

Since this is a Cast frame 4" Eminence coil. They will have a 8ohm recone kit available.

Ampeg " discontinued" the driver but Eminence still makes 15" drivers using the exact same basket and the exact same magnet gap.

Be easier to contact Eminence.
The cone number is stamped on back of the cone.

Likewise Eminence part number is on the magnet or back of basket

Years ago there was minimum order for recone kits. Things might have changed.
Plenty of online vendors selling kits.

Correct. Most the 4" voicecoil Eminence 15" drivers are designed to be subwoofer drivers.

Many PA manufacturing home stereo companies have used Eminence drivers for small pa subs. Or home stereo Subs.

For example we just had a member aquire a old Community " subwoofer" driver. Which is pretty common 100 watt speaker found in hundreds of Bass Combos.

Genuine Eminence factory recone kits are only available to those who have an OEM or dealer account. There are minimums for all OEM kits, and parts are generally available for both stamped and cast frame drivers (though often it's not worth reconing stamped frame drivers unless you are an OEM doing a number of defectives to maintain stock for customer replacements)

With discontinued part numbers, there may not be parts available due to vendors going out of business or component elements being long discontinued, it depends on the popularity of the component parts.

There is nothing suitable to replace the OP's driver with on that site. Besides, there is zero necessary information (other than diameter) from which to make any kind of meaningful selection for bass guitar applications.
