Help me decide… this or a Wal?

My wife told me to buy it.

A "Few" months ago you could order a Wal and wait 3 years.... and we didn't have massive shortages in the supply chain and strongly high demand ... A few months ago many things sold for a lot less than they do now.. The most recent Wal's are selling for north of $10K and there is one for sale now for close to $12K..

But hey, if someone has years to wait for a great deal, by all means wait..

You need to replace months with years there. A few months ago means two or three months ago, and no, Paul stopped taking orders around January, which is quite more than two or three months ago. Every bass I posted sold after Paul stopped taking orders. Im kinda confused as to why you seem offended that someone is pointing out Wal basses are still selling for significantly less than you think; the opposite reaction you’d expect, because Wals selling for less is a good thing for all of us! I don’t get it. And really what’s the difference between waiting a few years for your order and waiting for a good deal even if it takes a while? especially considering Paul isn’t taking orders as you mentioned and you really don’t have much of a choice now? Oh and that wal you’re mentioning is being sold by the guy who flipped that mk3 from 8.5k to 14k. So yeah, don’t buy it from him, look elsewhere.

I have an order placed with Wal so I am fully aware of the circumstances, however I think you need to look harder and more diligently for good deals before claiming they don’t exist. For instance:

This bass just sold for $6,850 a few months ago.

This one sold for $7,700 earlier this year. (I actually bought it but the seller screwed up the shipping so I got refunded and he sold to someone local)

There’s another 90s mk2 five string that sold for around 6.8-7k but the listing is expired, it sold a few months ago.

So don’t give me this stuff about no bass ever selling for less than 8-9k ever. They do, just not if you’re buying them from resident flipper/price inflator “guitar chimp”.

If you think those kind of prices are good deals then you should look back a few years. Wals are insanely overpriced now for what they actually are, even at the figures you're talking. It's just a couple of years since £4k (UPK) was top price for any used Wal, but because owners have decided the value of their basses track new prices even a Pro 1 is hitting that level now. It's not the flippers that are solely responsible, it's also the investor-owners and of course the rebooted Wal company itself. Crazy prices these days, and it's all the fault of that Justin Chancellor for using one. If only I could persuade him to start using old THD amps the value of my BiValve might recover...

Yes I do remember the prices from back in the day, but I’m talking about relative to the current market. I still wish I could go back in time and snag one for a third or a fourth of what they’re going for now.

not offended, just think you're wrong and putting out my counter point.. I shared with you via private messages response a recent EU listing that proves as much. If you and others want to wait for the market to fall out on these and pick them up for $6-7K, have at it!

In '97 I couldn't find a buyer for my 70s Pro 1 and traded it against a Takamine 6-string acoustic Wish I could go back in time and talk myself out of that!
