Help me decide… this or a Wal?

Wow! A lefty Wal. But $12k with all that nasty finish cracking on the headstock is crazy. And, speaking as a fretless only bassist, adding the frets is the height of blasphemiology.

Just for the scarcity I had to check that thing out. Even if I had the money I probably wouldn't go higher than 8k just because of everything they did with it but personally I'm one of those guys that are ok with blemishes and war paint to an extent. I just make sure it reflects in the price.

If it wasn't for the fact I laugh every time I look at the headstock and I probably would the entire time I owned the bass, I *love* the look of that Ptero.

Those Wals on reverb were bought for thousands less than they’re being sold for. For instance, that seller bought an mk3 for 8.5k and sold it for 14k last year, pretty ridiculous if you ask me... both of those basses that he’s selling he bought for significantly less and is just waiting for someone to bite so he can make a huge profit.. If you really want a Wal, be patient and a reasonably priced one will show up.

I bought my Mk2 5-er twenty years ago for 1500. These prices are nuts (but still in line with, say, a new Fodera). I don't ever plan on selling mine, as it's still the best bass I've ever played.

I don't particularly like the looks of either so my vote is play both and see which one plays and sounds better.
Then walk away and just buy a P bass and put the extra $11k into the bank until you need it for a house or a new car.
