I figure that in five years I will love to help someone do this. I can see that you guys must get a ton of these all the time, but this is a serious project and as my sig says, i won't quit.
I've been playing different instruments for six years. Three on guitar, two on keyboards and the last year on both guitar and keyboard. "What's this have to do with anything?" My set-up has always been mix and matched low quality "best I could do at the time" stuff. I have a Les Paul copy "Agile", use a little Epiphone 5 watt amp as a pre-amp into a powered mixer and a behringer cab that ruins the sound of anything but a keyboard.
I'm sick of having sub-par equipment. I'm sticking to bass. I have holes in my fingers because I bought a Stingray. i can't believe how good it sounds. I plug it into a 75 watt fender guitar amp at night through beat up behringer headphones where one ear buzzes and it still sounds amazing (relatively).
My other bass is a Yamaha beginner. If it wasn't a gift from a firend who just didn't want it i'd burn it for warmth.
Now I need a Head and Cab. I am hoping that after reading this you will know what i'm after. I'm still on a budget. I have to stay under $600 for the next six months or so and don't think i need to or can spend over $1,000 in the end.
I have some craigslistings that I've collected but am willing to go through ebay. I always feel ripped off at Guitarcenter. Unless there's something someone recommends that fits my budget and compliments my bass.
Here are a few links (I live in Miami and don't want to buy a rig that I can't play before taking home... therein Craigslist):
Don't want a combo but:

Was seriously considering this but it feels like my sub-par equipment after reading reviews:

A guy at guitarcenter is selling a hartke head and cab for $500... 500 watts... new in box. Hear bad things about hartke even from him though.
I DO want a rackmount set-up. I do want a rackmount tuner. (suggestions?) I can do just fine with a 4-10 and head set up for under $600 now. I'll add a 15 under the 4-10 later...
thanks... sorry for being so long winded but it's incredibly important to me as you can imagine. Please, lets work at making this MM growl without making my wallet howl.
