I agree.

The record "Pilgrimage", while I wouldn't call it sinister, is very dark, but beautiful.

Michael was facing a tough battle with leukemia at the time and I think he knew it would be his last album.

Might be just the kind of thing that socialleper is looking for.

Been an alt jazz fan since 1970s. In that time, my go-to for both classical and jazz, has always been record label ECM. Editions of Contemporary Music. German based, produced by Manfred Eicher. Visit the online audio examples of current artist line up. HUGE music catalog. Impeccable musicianship. Example: ECM is home to pianist Keith Jarrett. Other alt jazz worth mentioning in that time frame: John McLaughlin with Mahavishnu Orchestra/Jaco with Weather Report/Chick Corea with Return to Forever.

I love the Australian jazz pianist/ composer Andrea Keller (video attached). Also have you heard Miles’ “In A Silent Way”. And the very first Weather Report album?

I cannot recall who it was...but when he first saw The Electromagnets...he thought they looked like a bunch of bumpkins. Then when they played, he said his jaw was on the floor.

The eyes lie. A lot.

To me the Electromagnets started something that Tribal Tech finished, but the Electromagets get respect for kicking that door open. But I am n egg...

Probably not quite what you're after, but Moon Hooch:


Sax 'n Drums, with more EDM and Rock leanings than jazz.

Saw them live this year, they go through their set non-stop and jump around like they're a metal band. It's almost an athletic performance!

ECM certainly has a vibe. Eicher's recording style/technique & production is a major force with those albums. Are you familiar with the book, ECM: A Cultural Archeology?

Metheny's Bright Size Life...my ECM album.

Just recently, I picked up 2 Gary Burton albums -
Like Minds with Corea, Holland, & Haynes.
Passengers with Eberhard Weber. This is one of Metheny's 1st recordings ( if not the 1st).

Also, since John Abercrombie's passing...I have been digging into a lot of his ECM stuff.
Timeless, a trio with Jan Hammer & Jack Dejohnette, is one of them. I probably passed on this back in the day 'cause there is no bassist.
