Help me get rid of distortion

I got an EBS NEO112 that is producing a lot of distortion on some reasonable, working gain levels. Distortion is most pronoinced around D string E note up to A note while it might be noticed on some of the higher notes also. It sounds like something in it is badly resonating, although enclosure is tight and solid, nothing broken or lose. Speaker itself seems completely fine mechanicaly. I even got the "spider" suspension and cone sorounding changed professionally, but without any improvement. Box is specified as 300W/8ohm and it has same issue with both 150W/8ohm and 300W/8ohm amps, so i gues overpowering shouldn't be the case. Any thoughts, hints, experiences...?

It certainly sounds like that, bit like a snare drum when you hit its frequency, but it is definitely coming from the box and it hapends in a couple of different rooms. I will try to record it next time.

Amps are EBS Reidmar 250 or Markbass LittleMark 3. Basses Lakland 5502 or Fender Precision. Everything working fine on other boxes, all are bigger to be honest.

It's a sympathetic rattle of some sort. Check all your speaker connections, especially any push on spade lug connectors; sometimes they can lose spring tension and create distortion through a bad connection.

A bad tinsel lead can exhibit this problem too, but usually it'll be at all frequencies.

You can also try lowering your pickup a touch.

I just had a similar problem and found it to be my guitar. The E on the D string second fret sounded like two wrong notes resonating, horribly out of phase. No other notes. Just that one. This happened right after I adjusted the bridge saddles. I went back and tweaked the D saddle up just a hair, retuned and.. GONE! Got lucky.

I have seen internal wiring touching the back of the speaker cone. Check: Grill. Handles. Casters. Input jacks and tweeter knob.

Unplugged (open) 1/4" jacks? Air moving in and out can cause noises. Shot in the dark.

Check the dustcap too. If the glue bond breaks, it'll flap in the wind.

Sounds like a loose brace inside the cabinet. I had that happen to a Peavey sub a while back.

Any air leaks around handle or jack cups?
All corner protectors tight? Feet?
Baffle to speaker gasket in good order?
Braces all tight ? Baffle tight?
The badge on the grill, backed with felt or glued/screwed to grille?
Try it without the grille.
Any bubbling in the Tolex/vinyl?
Does placing a hand firmly anywhere diminish the effect?
What about placing a different side of the cabinet in contact with the floor?

Good ideas! Never thought putting different sides on the floor.
Maybe try on carpeting to isolate?
