I already posted this on facebook, but the folks of TalkBass have been really cool to me so I thought I would ask:

For those that don't know me (I'm not famous, but bassists seem to know me better than guitarists lately) I'm a small-scale pedal builder working out of my garage. I do it 100% for fun, it is not how I make my living as I have a solid day job. Anyway, I have a bunch of new designs I'm waiting on boards for, and I could use some help naming them. I have working titles for all of them, but I don't love the names I came up with. I posted this on Facebook as a contest, so it would only be fair to offer the same prizes here, anyone that gives a name that Iend up using will get a laser engraved plaque that says "I NAMED A SUSHI BOX PEDAL, BOW BEFORE MY GREATNESS" with your name, the pedal's name, and the Sushi Box logo.

So here's what I've got:

1) Ampeg B-15 preamp pedal with 6N21B tube. Working title: "Amp Egg"

2) Ibanez TS808 with the input and output buffers replaced with 6N21B tube stages. Working title: "Electric Potato"

3) Sunn Model T preamp pedal with 6N21B tubes. Working title: "Sunny T Lite"

4) Orange AD200B preamp pedal with 6N21B tube. Working title: "Rhymes With Orange"

5) Hybrid tube optical compressor with 6N21B tube. Working title: "Tubey Squeezy"

6) Tube tremolo with 6N21B tube. Working title: "Tubey Whirl"

7) HiWatt Dr103 preamp pedal with 6N21B tubes. Working title: "Wraith Dt103"

Just send them all to me for testing. I'll send names back with them lol
A reasonable idea, unfortunately they aren't built yet :P I just got the email today that the boards have shipped, so it will still be a 2-3 weeks at least before I have anything boxed up. Hoping to have names settled on before then :)

Thank for seeking ideas; mine wouldn’t be about the names but the commonality among the names. You never know if your craft picks up and turns to be a larger business (I hope for you that it does). Similar look and feel and naming conventions are important now that there is so much competition.

I would find a common concept (color, planets, elements, Sushi types, numbers, name of people) where when someone sees one of your pedals they would say “ this is one of Sushi’s units”

The Ampeg one, I’d name it “Toro Sumomaki”....Ibanez’ : “Temari Sushi”

Just a thought

1) 6N21B-15

....or better still “ampersand”....as it’s got the circuit AND a tube...can even use the “&” as art on the pedal....or write it “ampers&nd”....

4) “London Underground”...because that’s also British and has tubes....and nothing rhymes with orange...:D

Maybe better for 4):

“Kumquat”....because it’s like an Orange amp...just smaller....:p

5). “Sonic Glue Tube”....one squeeze keeps everything tight together

or if you want to stick with the high energy particle physics vibe....”Gravitron”

I'm actually digging Ampers&nd a lot.

1. Porta-B in honor of my friend Steve Boone from the Lovin' Spoonful, who always calls Portaflexes that.

I do like Porta-B quite a bit as well. Or maybe Porta Flip, as the B15 was a fliptop. When I heard Amp Egg, I can't help but think that the amp laid an egg. lol (Not that that would keep me from buying one, of course. It actually kind of makes sense in a way.)

3. Stick with Sunny T Lite

I'd go without the "Lite" for this one... Sunny T has a nice ring, "Lite" makes it sound diet. lol

I get why you say that. I think he's going for a play on Sunny Delight, though they changed the name to Sunny D, so maybe you're right about dropping "Lite" :D
