Help me pick my verse riff

Alright, so I'm torn between these two rythyms for the verse in one of our songs. Both work with the lyrics, both work with the chorus.

One on beat, one off beat. I looped them on 4 measure change offs. Which one do you guys like better?

I prefer the bass on beat on this one. Both basslines sound great, but the "whole" sounds more solid with the bassline on beat, "I think" because the off-beat bassline makes the timing of the melody line sound unstable in a spot or two.

I actually think the timing is off on the keys. I notice that on both versions. It lags at times

Tasty I really like both, however the on-beat version feels more grounded.
I think both could have their place : you could use the off-beat variation occasionally to change it up (3rd bar seems appropriate), or even during the first half of the second verse to create a different atmosphere.

I'd use both, offbeat could work well for a bridge or breakdown or something.

Tough choice. Both sound good. Out of context, in the first file, I prefer the on beat version. But in the context of the whole track I think the off beat version works better, so I voted for that. But I’d really have to hear the vocals to make a definitive choice.

And I agree that using both is a viable option, depending on the vocals.

I didn't vote because I agree with the above that starting with the on-beat line sounds good but then throw in the off-beat variation where it fits to keep things interesting.

use the on beat for the verse, and use the off beat for like a break

Mix them. That would make it interesting IMHO.

On beat sounds better IMO but have to say bury the keys or re-record them on time, for me it’s hard to hear past them.

Whichever one you choose, make the other into the bridge

I would do the on beat primarily, and mix in the off beat line here or there just to keep people on their toes.

Definitely on beat! If anything, at least start with the on beat version before playing the off beat. On beat sounds tighter. The off beat has a Reggae feel but the on beat sounds better to my ears.

I think it sounds great though. That's some nice playing and a great track.
