Help me understand "Tainted Love"

...it's simply a parallel major (I can't help but feel that this makes this entire thread somewhat redundant).

We can use the following term, "Borrowed chord".
Using a major tonic I chord instead of the minor tonic i chord when ending a piece in a minor key - the Picardy Third.

I've always seen pop music as Being where someone hits various chords waiting for the "right" one to sound out...

How's that working out for you?

Not bad thanks. I know when I like it and I'm fairly certain when I don't. So far I've not needed an in-depth understanding of music to appreciate it....

All this discussion, it's great for being able to write "working" music quickly. Or for being able to dissect a song to its core element. But it's not necessary to understand this to write, play or enjoy music....

Yep, but hey, I can only go off the muscians in their big houses funded by ignorance compared to the knowledgeable composers in their modest ones... But hey, maybe Jon bon jovi has a fantastically deep musical knowledge, or slash, or......

You don't need to be the biggest musical mind in the world to write a hit song. Obviously. But 99.999999% of the world's population will never write a hit song, and I know lots of musicians who are untrained, and when their rock star sell-by date expires, their careers are over. Meanwhile, I know plenty of trained musicians who manage to keep their careers going long after that date. They don't have hit songs but they make money. And I know from experience that the gigs that require a certain level of training and reading ability pay way better than the ones that don't.

Go back to the opening post. Seems he can read and play, was just asking why... I'm just wondering how much of this thread is required when you get sheet music thrown at you. Most of it seems to live in the "music appreciation" class we had at school. When it came to the orchestra it was more "play what's written as what's written is what you should play".

The threads very interesting though.

To tie the ribbons on this one, I said I was going to ask a Motown writer from the 1960s what they called this.

I finally spoke to her tonight at my gig, and they didn't have a name for it. They just did it. Helen liked "borrowed tonic" and "borrowed chord", though.
