Help: My Eden WT-550 is making "crackling" noises

Dropped it off yesterday. The repair shop pick up guy had already come by, so it's gonna sit there for a week before someone will look at it. No big deal though. I just hope they can sort this out for a reasonable price. I wasn't planning to buy a new amp this year...though I have taken a liking to Ashdown lately! ;)

It's not quite static, it kind of sounds like the dry pops of a fire place that's throwing sparks, or a geiger counter or something. It's nothing in my signal chain, cause the amp will even do it when I remove the input cable. I haven't found a confirmed way to influence this behavior... At times it seems that turning the master volume knob rapidly a few times will get rid of it, but then it will come back a few minutes later and be immune to that treatment. Turning the input level to zero has no effect, it will only go silent when I turn down the output level.

I replaced the tube, no difference.

Any idea what could cause this?

Check to See if your A.C. Cord is making a Good Connection or have a Qualified Technician check for a Bad Opp Amp in the Output Stage. A.C. Filter could be bad too!

Curious does the popping sound relate to when the fan kicks on once it heats up?

So after four weeks of nothing, I receive an estimate. Replacing tube, cleaning pots and plugs for just over 100 bucks.

I was kind of hoping he would find a defective component that he can replace. You know, something a little more definitive... Oh well, I'm having him do it. I already paid for half of it (50 bucks to get an estimate!), hopefully it will fix the problem for a while.
