HELP. my GK head is DEAD!

My 700rbII started acting up at my last gig. The volume started fading in and out, and it started crackling a little bit. I took the cover off, took the circuit board that the pots are mounted to off the board, and sprayed some deoxit into each pot, and each jack. I blew the dust off of the rest of the components, and put it back together.

It has since preformed flawlessly. It was a very easy fix that just about anyone with any mechanical aptitude could pull off in an hour or so. The hardest part was getting all of the knobs back on straight.

My amp has been nothing if not a solid work horse. I bought it used three years ago, and it has been pushed hard, in many dusty, hot, smokey environments and the only thing that has ever gone wrong with it has been it getting dirty.

My RB1001II smoked and died as well..I took it into a service center..I bought it used so it wasnt under warranty..He told me he just replaces the whole internals with new board from G/K..300 bux if not under warranty..I bought a new one but when I get 300 ill have it fixed and used as practice amp I figure..

This can cause all of those symptoms as there is a switch in the effects loop jacks and all of your signal passes through this switch, when it gets dirty...sounds like crap and sometimes no sound at all.
Run a small cable from the effects out jack to the effects in jack and see if that fixes it, if so then get some DeOxit and spray some in the jacks to clean them out.

This is just one possible cause, but the easiest one to check without opening up the amp.

I've had my 700rbII for almost six years now.... and I push it hard..... love the growl and grunt it puts out!

Not a single problem. It's been the most reliable head I've owned in my 30+ years of playing. Of course, the '90 400rb I just bought might now have that honor. One of the keys to the longevity of gear is to keep it covered up and protected when not in use. And keep it in a temp controlled environment. Leaving gear in the vehicle overnight or in the garage is inviting corrosion issues from flash condensation.

Maybe I'm lucky but...
For the 5 or 6 years I had my 1001RB it spent most of the time in a semi-heated basement and more than few nights in a car. Only ever once needed to open it up for a thorough De-Oxit cleaning.

My 25 year old Peavey TNT combo lived in my trunk and gigged heavily for it's last 10 yrs. before it had a single issue. Went through blizzards, heatwaves, you name it.

I don't believe weather affects our gear the way some people believe it does. As someone else here once pointed out, you never hear of our car stereos or speakers crapping out on us because of the weather or changes in it. Amps also do a fine job of going from 140 degres in a trunk, to 50 in air conditioned room in a moments notice.

there's never any need to be rude in making any point. There's never anything to be gained by multiple quotes of said rudeness.
If this thread is subject to that sort of thing again, I'll close it right back up.

My equipment is not babied, two problems with the 800RB in over a decade. 1) Drunk knocked over my rig and damaged the input jack (still finished the gig). 2) Effects return jack cleaned once (don't use it) shortly after playing a gig when light rain interrupted the gig for 45 minutes.
Fusion 550, no problems.

Like the few others in this thread who have not had problems with their GK gear, I am also one of them. I bought my 1001RB-II new almost three years ago, and it has been a champ. It has seen hundreds of gigs, and always performed flawlessly. I take really good care of my stuff, and it's always taken care of me. Chef, you hit the nail on the head.
