Help picking first bass!!

Hello I'm Brian I'm new to bass playing and am about to purchase my first bass. I've found a few on the local CL. Ill include the links, in wondering which one would be the best and most reliable... Also need help finding a bass amp [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]. [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]. [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]. Any help would be much appreciated... ;)

I prefer the Ibanez, but it's all about personal preference. I personal haven't had good luck with Peavy, but many on TB love them. I will say that when you first start, pick something you like the look and feel of. If you don't want to pick it up it doesn't matter how well it's built. Back to your question I just feel like Ibanez is a great value. I've been playing for almost 5 year and If I want to buy a cheap bass I either look for Ibanez or Squire.

Also: I have owned the amp that comes with the third one and I didn't like it. I'd recommend (if you have the money) looking for a fender or Marshall combo (preferable with a 10" speaker). They both make relatively good starter amps.

Best advice would be to get to a shop and play as many as you can and feel what you like.

But...

If that's what you have narrowed down to, I would go with the Fury. I don't know much about them except what i've read here at TB, and for the most part it is all very positive. And besides that they don't make them anymore, so you'll have a cool vintage one-off (sorta).

Even if you've never played before, I would recommend getting your hands on more than one bass to do a comparison. Even if you're just randomly fretting and strumming a string or two, you will notice a difference from one bass to the other.

There is a Guitar Center in Akron where you could try out several different brands. Decide which ones you're simply not comfortable with and eliminate them. Decide which necks just feel really good in your hand and then go home and look for a good deal on a used one. I had never played in my life when I first went bass shopping and after testing several out, I at least knew which ones I didn't want.

Like I stated, new to playing bass I've only played other instruments, such as the violin and sax. Both were decent btw. I mainly want to play classic rock and fastest would prob be like nirvana. I'm leaning towards the peavey, just bEcause it's vintage and u.s. made

I would still suggest trying out a few and seeing how they feel in your hands. If you've played violin, you understand the difference in neck-feel from on instrument to another, so you've got a head start on other beginners. Peavey makes a good product in my opinion, but every bass feels a little different, and I personally wouldn't put "vintage and u.s. made" above "feels great" or "neck fits great" or "this action is perfect for me". That's just my humble opinion. You asked :p

I would say: first determin what kind of tone you would like to have from a bass, and search for a model that has that particular tone.

But if you really want one from the list, I'd go for the Fury. I don't have experience with them, but I own a T-40 by Peavey and I must say that that one is a very good bass.
