I have a Hartke 5500 (500w at 4 ohm) head and an Eden Nemesis NSP410 cabinet (500w at 4 ohms). My pre-amp knobs are set to around 2 and 3 and my master volume is set to 3. I use a Epiphone Thunderbird IV bass. I do not use any pedals or effects, just plug the bass straight into the passive input and play!
I have only just bought the Eden cabinet and used it for the first time last night with any sort of volume. Previously I used an 8 ohm Hartke 4X10 which has potentially blown a speaker coil (not certain though). The problem I am experiencing has never happened before so my immediate suspicion is that it has something to do with the cab but its hard to say because its 4 ohms rather than the 8 ohms I have been using so I guess it uses more power from the amp etc and may be causing an amp problem?
Anyway, at various stages during the 3 hours I played with my band last night my amp just cut out. This happened around 8 times and each time all the lights etc on my amp were still on but it was almost as if I had unplugged one of the leads. After a minute or so (although the time wasnt really consistant) it came back to life. I tried different leads everywhere and also spent a fair amount of time moving leads in sockets around but couldnt find an obvious loose connection.
One suggestion was that the amp was shutting itself down as it was driving too hard although this seems a bit unlikely at the volumes I have the amp set at. Im also pretty gentle on the strings most of the time and it wasnt happening only when I played harder or anything like that. Im also not sure that the amp is smart enough to do this - It certainly isnt mentioned in the manual!
Can anyone help with some possible reasons for this?
