Double Bass Help!! Please

Hi, I am a 16 y/o bassist living in michigan trying to get into the School of music theater and dance at the university of michigan, and I just have a couple questions
1) What would be considered Standard concerto for bass (I don't really do much classical playing so I wouldn't really know)
2)There is no solo bach written for bass so do you think the cello suites would be fine

For you, I recommend,
1) Koussevitzky Concerto or Dittersdorf Concerto in E (but with bass part in D). Use the Schott edition for Dittersdorf.
2) J.S. Bach, Bourees I & II from the Third Cello Suite, transcribed for double bass. Use the Sterling Edition.

You're only 16. There's plenty of time, but get a teacher, and start practicing, now.

Bach Cello Suites are standard bass audition repertoire across the board in both professional and academic auditions. "Standard" concertos are Bottesini concerto No. 2, Koussevitzky concerto, Dittersdorf, Vanhal. I agree with ILIA that Koussevitzky or Dittersdorf are better places to start. Just need the first movement usually.
Get a teacher ASAP, and buy the edition they recommend.

The best thing you could do if you want to go to UM is go take lessons with the UM bass Prof and/or his students.

Does anyone still play the Dragonetti solo stuff?
It was always assigned to me back when.

Nobody plays Dragonetti in professional auditions anymore. The field is pretty much just Koussevitzky, Vanhal, Bottesini, and occasionally Dittersdorf (In the US). In Europe Dittorsdorf is much more common and is often required for auditions. Dragonetti is used basically as an etude before you get to college auditions nowadays.

Perfect suggestion! I am playing the Dittersdorf and this exact Bach for my auditions, and I passed both of my classical pre-screen recordings with these pieces, one of which was for UM. Hope this helps!
