Help settle a debate about Geddy Lee Jazz Basses

So a buddy of mine has just acquired a "Geddy Lee Jazz CIJ", the neck checks out as such but the body had a preamp (thats been removed) with battery box. Now to my knowledge there never has been a Geddy Lee Jazz bass that had active electronics, to which Im reaching out to Talkbass to settle this.

Has there ever been an active Fender Geddy Lee model? Or is it a Geddy neck on some other bass?

Pretty sure they are all passive, no matter where they're manufactured.

I have about 10 various GL Jazzes... MIA, MIJ, CIJ... they are all passive with no active shenanigans, tomfoolery, or even a hint of monkeyshines.

Yeah either a parts bass or the factory body was modded. Period.

Pics would help. There are guys here who can tell you who made a bass body by guard screw placement, bridge screw patterns, or simply sorcery.

Defiantly not a stock Geddy. The first word of my prior sentence was a spell check error but I decided to leave it as is because it fits.

It's either a Geddy neck on a different body or the battery box and preamp were added by a previous owner. All Geddy Jazz Basses are passive.

The body could be anything. It's one of the great, and potentially problematic things about four bolt, 20 fret, full scale Fender basses.

No active Geddys from manufacturer. Ive seen alot of people put in Audere preamps and said they had good results.

BTW those CIJ GL are AWESOME and IMHO better than the USA model. BUT that's just my 1-1/2 cents.
