Help with a 60th Anniversary P Bass

Found a 2011 MIA 60th Anniversary Precision, the guy wants $750 for it. All of the pictures of the 60th anniversary basses I have seen have the string through bridge. This one does not. Is this one legit, and is this a good price? Here is a pic of the serial number and neck plate.

Well not sure how the other 60th are, but that one says Am Special on the back of the neck.

Do both lines share the same neck or is this a swap?

Fender is notorious for its multitude of 'Anniversary' basses over the years ... 2011 happened to be the 60th Anniversary of the Precision bass, so they came out with 60th Anniversary model (which this one is not), and then every P they put out in 2011 got the commemorative neck plate ... this bass is nothing more than a 2011 American Special (same as any other year), only with the commemorative neck plate, which signifies it being born in yet another 'anniversary' year .. nothing more, nothing less ...

If you scan YouTube and the like, you will see a myriad of basses listed as 'Anniversary Models', and usually it is not the case ... as there were very specific productions of Anniversary MODELS, and the rest just either got a neck plate, or as in the case of 2006 (60th Anniversary of Fender), the dime size '60th' medallion on the back of the headstock ... it really means nothing special, despite sellers often thinking it does and trying to ask more $$... and buyers falling for it ..

Edit to add: .. in reply to OP last question, if it is a 2011 American Standard that you are comparing this to, the AmStand will have the commemorative neck plate, AND string thru BODY bridge ... IF it is a bass that is not usually a STB model, it will be as the AmSpecial you have pictured .. nothing changes because of the fancy neck plate ...

Yup ... uses the High Mass Vintage (HMV) bridge used on the current AmStands ... string thru body (STB) and top loadable ...

BTW, I should add, there was a limited run of this bass in Sunburst for sale exclusively by GC/MF, not sure of the # but I am thinking around 125 comes to mind ...

American Special Jazz basses tend to go for $500 - $700 on these forums. $750 for a Am Special P seems high IMO.

The only thing written on the back of the headstock is the serial number on the 60th Anniversary model.

I have a 2011 american special p and I dig it. It has a slimmer neck, front to back . Feels fast. Original pricing was $999, so let that play into if you feel 749$ is a good price or not. For what it's worth, I found mine at a local brick and mortar that had been hanging on the wall since '11, and got it new for less than the one you're looking at. Talk him down.

Yup, that's the American Special model as folks above mentioned. I have one and dig it, very different feel than my American Standard. The $750 is way too high unless its brand spamming new and feels like "the one" when you pick it up. I grabbed mine for under 500.

Every single Fender Precision Bass produced in 2011 had that neck plate. It is NOT an Anniversary edition unless every single bass produced that year is an anniversary edition. That being said, if you like the bass then offer $600-$650. That's the going rate for used American Specials.

Here is a pic of my "60th anniversary neck with the fake diamond and a medallion on the back of the headstock. It has a rosewood FB with the maple back.The neck that came with the bass was a Maple/Maple. This bass is for sale here on TB.
