R.I.P. I know he was a session legend in the UK.

Not that many session players have created iconic bass lines that the public knows and recognizes just as much as musicians, even if the civilians don’t know their names. Besides Jamerson, Kaye, Osborn, Berghofer(I’d say that the downward upright slide on “These Boots…” counts), Herbie was definitely among those ranks. And he did it with two basses. Walk on, Herbie.

I remember buying Al Kooper's New York City album and being blown away by his playing on that album in '71. Such a great body of work!

Multi genre genius Bass playing. In addition to all those iconic lines above, you have the David Essex Baseline for rock on which is Iconic itself. Herbie's line on Melanie's lay down is a great line as well.
