I have 2 Hercules DB stands -- one for home and one for work. I love them. The stands are not only to save space, but to protect my bass. They are sturdy and well worth the investment.

Double Bass Hercules Bass Stand

I have once ordered the old K&M, the new K&M and the Hercules. I tried them all and found the Hercules was the one that hold the bass best in position if someone bumped against it. It also worked best with my Sta-endpin rubber disk that did not fit well or not at all into the others. But my bass is rather heavy (E. Wilfer 4/4, 5-string). Might be different with a lighter instrument.
But the K&M are easier to carry, take less space on the stage and I don't have to lift the bass as high as for the Hercules. With my short endpin in my big instrument, me being rather short, it is difficult to find the cup for the endpin.
The newer version might work a bit better, but seems to be developed with a blank spike in mind, not a rubber endpin or Wolf-endpin that fits into the old version cup.
So if I have enough space on stage (hardly the case), I prefer the Hercules, otherwise I take the old K&M that I bought once used.

Which one? The silver one with the cup (old version) or the black one with the triangle (new)?
To fit the Wolf in my old bass stand cup which was too small, I replaced it with an 1 1/2 " copper tubing cap from HomeDepot. You just need to drill a couple of holes to fit the screws and nuts.
Well, I finally bought a Hercules stand. Found one place I like who had them for $63, but shipping would have been $32! Ouch. Most other places I found them for $76 ... and free shipping. So, I went with Musician's Friend. Ordered it Saturday and it arrived yesterday. I must say, it seems like a very sturdy stand. Well padded, too. The only real fault I can find with it is the bow hook, which is really more of a rod than a hook (I like the Ingles hooks better). It will work, though. No more switching stands.
Well, I broke down and bought the Hecules from Gollihur Music. I was pleasantly impressed by both. I ordered it on-line around noon on June 11th and it arrived UPS in the afternoon of the 14th. Can't beat that for service! Maybe the boss recognized my name from this thread 
The stand is really great. It was worth the wait. I could see taking it to a gig (a steady gig if anyone still remembers them?) ; it folds quickly and flat. I highly recommend the stand and Gollihur.

It's unfortunate, but true -- the shipping costs for items like the Hercules stands has gone up at most retailers. UPS and FedEx have gone to "dimensional weight" calculations, which, due to the size of the box (37 x 28 x 5), makes the cost of shipping the stand (which packed, only weighs 10 lbs) the equivalent of shipping a 32 lb. package. Hence, the high shipping costs.
I'm sure all of us retailers wish we could do better, but we're over a barrel.
I find the Hercules stand works pretty well at home even with the endpin extended "too far". Wouldn't want to leave Meghan on the stand with the pin touching the floor at a gig, but I don't use a DB stand at gigs. It's a great stand, well designed and well made
I know that this might be splitting hairs. I like my Hercules stand very much, but I wonder if the "horns" on the front of the stand could be a little shorter? Is it necessary that they be 4 inches? I would think that 1 or 2 inches would be sufficient to hold the bass in the stand, and it would make the replacement of the bass much easier. I often catch myself lowering the my bass on the top of the right horn (facing the front of the stand) when I am putting it back in the stand. A very minor complaint, I must admit and apologize.

Maybe. They do seem a bit high when you're trying to get a bass in there; but I guess with the various sizes of bass that might be using the stand and have shallower ribs, that extra security might be worth the extra grunt to get the bass over the lip. Dunno; you'd have to ask the designers of the stand why they chose that particular size. But I, for one, having several basses displayed on Herc stands, am happy about how stable they are on them.
I love Hercules products, I not only use the DB stand, but also the foldable music stand (takes up much less space), and have a few EB stands from them too. Tools that do the job.
