Yep. Impossible to sound like a Ric without it. Also impossible to get that sound with a $100 bass with Jazz pickups, Elm body and a bolt on neck..

I see you are using two neck Rick pups. The magnets on those are fairly weak. I suggest routing in and installing a Rick bridge pup in your bridge position.

Question: Why couldn't you use a neck pickup in both the neck and bridge positions? I thought they were actually pretty similar, despite the mounting? Or are you saying that the bridge pickup has a stronger magnet?

I've been thinking about doing this for a while, but with toasters in both the neck and bridge positions.

Toasters and hi-gain neck pup are different animals.

A toaster is made of 6 magnetized alnico slugs. I’ve seen lots of 4003 and 4004 mods with toasters in both positions.

The neck hi-gain has a fairly narrow rubber magnet under the metal pole pieces.

The bridge hi-gain has a wider and longer rubber magnet under the metal poles. As a result, produces more output than the neck hi-gain.

This is awesome! A combination of my two favorite basses! However, f it'd been me, I woulda done the opposite, put a p-bass pickup in a ric-style body, as I prefer the 4003 ergonomics to a precision bass.

I dunno. I'd kinda miss having the skin torn off of the inside of my right wrist every so often. That, and having the same side cuff of my shirt constantly shedding buttons. Prolly woulda used a '51 slab P body to lessen the loss.
