(I meant to imply it's obviously lighter since it's been butchered. Sarcasm fail.)
not too bad, actually, but why sacrifice a '66?
I’m sure the sacrifice was made before a ‘66 was worth more than a new Jazz. People do crazy stuff, and it’s hard to tell what will become valuable in the future.
I kinda like it, but not the price.
Kinda like the very, very early Stratocaster I saw when I was a kid that had been modified to a teardrop guitar. As sad as it was, it was pretty cool, and they weren't worth so much back then used. In 1960 you could have bought a new Jazz for under three hundred dollars. In the 70s they were just good used basses. I was there and no one would have guessed a regular old Fender would be worth so much someday.

Part it out. The neck is a good catch if it’s legit. Same with the electronics.

All it needs is a donor body and the pickguard (which do come up for sale). The price needs to be about 25% of what the guy is asking, though. It isn't worth it otherwise. If I had a ton of extra cash, I'd buy it just to fix it!
