12 + 10 isn't really a very good match. The 10" is neither a big bottom driver, nor an optimal mids driver. A 6 or 8" is more suitable.

If you want a wish list, wish for a 3015LF and a pair of Delta Pro 8B. I have an urge to build this one for myself. Box is 33H x 22W x 16.75D. The width is chosen to match a standard rack. Takes a full 450w without exceeding Xmax. Gives F3 around 44 Hz and an honest 99 SPL above 100 Hz. I estimate 70 pounds bare, made from 1/2" baltic birch.

The vertical array of 8" gives better horizontal dispersion, and a higher beaming frequency. These are 16-ohm drivers, so a parallel pair will mate with the 3015LF and an 8-ohm crossover. This combination should handle 60 volts (450w into 8 ohms, 225w into 16 ohms) witouth fear of damage. Biamp or crossover at 300 Hz. Response is good to 5,000 Hz without using tweeters.

The 3015LF will whomp any 12".

One of the keys to Avatar's low pricing is their one-size-fits-all cabinet. Only the baffle is different while the rest of the box remains the same. This does not lend itself to optimal tuning for a given set of drivers.

Multiple drivers increases labor costs. The smaller drivers require a sub chamber to avoid getting beaten to death by the woofer. Multiple drivers significantly increase component cost.

If one wants a high quality multiple driver system at low cost, they have to either roll their own or buy used. I figure the DIY hard cost for 3015LF, Delta Pro-8B, and baltic birch is around $350. This will be lower for a high volume manufacturer.

+1 If you look Dave only has two sizes of bass cabs and only switches out the baffles.

+1. Anything less than about a 2:1 size ratio between drivers is not sound engineering practice.

The Delta Pro 8 is a great driver, but it's no featherweight, at 10 pounds it's heavier than the 3015LF :eek:. IMO this configuration would be equally well served with 5 pound LA8CNMBs. A pair wired parallel would be 4 ohms, but that's not going to pose a problem for any amp, and you'd never need two of these cabs.

Yes, the 8B are heavier. The difference between a pair of LA8 and 8B is 12 pounds. The LA8 pair would reduce cabinet weight from 70 to 58 pounds, but with a three-fold tradeoff:

First, 8B has a higher top end 3500 vs. 5000 Hz. Second, a pair is 8 ohms which is easier for a commercial crossover. Last, and most important to me, is superior power handling.

Both 3015LF and a single 8B are rated at 60v. This is 450w for the 3015LF and 225w for the 16-ohm 8B. The 8B will not be exposed to over powering when the 3015LF is driven to full power. The Neo LA8 is rated at 42v which is 225w at 8 ohms. This would limit the 3015LF unless the rig is biamped.
