Well that was meant to be more of a statement then a question.
Anyways, has anyone here seen the Michael Moore film Roger and Me about Flint?? I saw parts of it years ago, and I went to blockbuster to rent it, but couldn't find it anywhere.
Kudos to the threadstarter for doing it despite heavy criticism from the overly serious crowd. One thing I wished I could've done was be alive during the East/West Berlin crisis and pass through Checkpoint Charlie... that would've made for some interesting pictures.

On a side note: I DID congratulate him if this was a personal victory. Many people go through great pains to overcome personal obstacles. If this is one of those situations, I salute him. Unfortunately, overcoming a personal obstacle by visiting an area other people spend their lives in does not give one a huge sack.

i havent read the whole thread, but check out brantford ontario. we recently (like 2 or 3 weeks ago) got chosen for the filming place for the silent hill (video game) movie because of our "derelict downtown". ours is the most shameful downtown ive ever seen, and i hitch-hiked all around this country for two years. i dont know if there are pics anywhere, but its pathetic, about 30 % of our downtown is boarded up, and if this wasnt enough, they painted imaginary signs and storefronts in them. one place says "billiards" and has a few (painted) people playing pool. they arent even ppl, just silhouettes! im sure detroit may be pretty rough, but you shouldve seen brantford for the past 8 years. i should say though, its not very dangerous.

BB, I look forward to seeing the pics. Where'd you go exactly? If there are a bunch of different locations, make sure you post the specifics with each pic so we locals can visualize in context

That "warm" look has to do with the film grain associated with a slower film. It's great stuff, but you definatly have to be careful about your lighting and subject matter. A tripod dosen't hurt either.
As for the color stuff...800 is basically the min. for shooting a few things like your sporting events as well as shooting in low light conditions. (Works great at a gig...hinthintwinkwinknudgenudge)
I personally do mostly digital...using a Canon EOS 1Ds and a Canon 10D. (Thank God for being the assistant for a photographer who can afford nice equipment!!!)

Flint is rough....There's a venue on Saginaw & Second Street I used to spend a lot of time at, and it's pretty bad at times....
Everyone gets down on Downtown Detroit... But the fact of the matter is, thats not really THAT bad. Sure, there are lots of homeless, plenty of abandoned buildings... But get out of downtown and into the neighborhoods.... Thats where the gang wars, drug deals, shootings, robberies, rapes occur on a DAILY basis.

This thread is very offensive to anyone living in Detroit- Such as myself. I ACTUALLY live in the place that you're putting down in your post and I think that you are over-inflating the problems to uplift yourself.
I live in Detroit, take the buses, walk down the streets everyday (alone), and have NEVER been the victim of any kind of violence. I, too, have walked throughout the city while filming (16mm motion picture film), and see no reason for you to talk about it the way you do- especially since you have your location listed as Detroit. I suspect that you are afraid because you look down on people that live here, which is ridiculous.
Also, taking pictures of abandoned buildings in Detroit is a really tired idea. I've seen it overdone way too much. People come to the city, take their photos, run back to their cars in fear, and brag about their conquest. You didn't even come here alone- what do you have to brag about?
Try this: Take the bus down to Detroit, walk throughout the city with an instrument on your back, a film camera in your hand, and mind your own business. Then, you can boast. Until then, you can drive down and see me do it everyday.
