the only one that has slightly interested me is the VLE VPF pedal, i liked those features when i tried a little mark out. but the passive DI box seems a little stoopid to me, does it really need to be that size/shape? also the DUB switch is a cool feature on the octaver, well named too. but overall they are pretty meh, nothing really new. they dont even look new they are in the old ashdown enclosures, i wonder if the production models will look better...

I'm with you on pretty much every point. What is with the DI shape? I understand they are trying to develop a brand look, but - "Hey Markbass! Rocktron, Ashdown and Stryper called - they want their design aesthetics back..."

i actually really like that they are coming out with these pedals and really am damn interested! probably will pick one up.....but the looks and size....wow! can't wait until they come out to see what the consensus is.

Word. Consistency makes sense if you have a bunch of other MB pedals on the rack- but on its own it looks like ..um...some kind of.... yellow....um....thing.

The other thing kinda annoyed me about the video is that he kinda glazed over the non-tube ones. Maybe because there wasn't much interesting about them.

Good point, I think because Mark Bass are so commuted to the colour scheme they have they couldn't really do anything other than black and yellow, because then nobody would know who made them

Well, Marshall pedals look all the same as well, really.
But, knowing Markbass (being Italian, I know this company quite well... about half the amps in Italy are Markbass, and the other half is shared by all the other brands ), this won't be the final look.
Remember with the Classic 300? They changed design I think twice...
And they're gradually changing the colour scheme to a more elegant, less "builder going to work in a Tonka truck" one.
These won't be available for a year, at least.
Plus I bet they're reading the thread They WILL change something, I hope.

The size of the pedals, though, I don't think they can go much smaller than that. With three footswitches, you're bound to make a larger pedal than your average Boss
If you really have to complain on size, do it on the EHX pedals. The Big Muff must have the smallest circuit ever, but it is encased in a HUGE box, just for the sake of "vintage look" (I can understand, but still...).
These MB pedals can probably be shrinked a bit, though.

Squeezer alternative? Sure. Direct competition or replacement? Methinks not-so-much. If I remember correctly the synth pedal is digital? Based on the lack of info about these pedals, size, etc, I'm not expecting any of them to break ground or blow me away.

OK, so they're big - they might be big but they have lots of features - would you rather have a big feature packed pedal, or a small one that doesn't do everything you want it to? If they brought out a synth pedal the size of the boss one, with less adjustability and less footswitches, and no presets, then you would all be saying - "wow, this is a great circuit. Its a shame they didn't put it in a bigger box and give us presets and a screen to tell us what patch we're on..."

And they're black and yellow - who cares? They're going to live on the floor, surrounded by wires and other pedals.

Again, where's the info on all of these "features"? 3 footswitches & mystery screens doesn't yield a lot of actual information, just speculation...

Oh, and design-wise they do share an awful lot of similarity with the horrible Ashdown & Rocktron offerings of yester-year!


I'm really not intending to bash theses pedals - how could I? It doesn't look like anybody has played through one yet! My point is that the TB-fan-boy-buzz-syndrome appears to have already kicked in. All we have is a very short physical look at a product line with no real information & the descriptors "well thought out" and "feature packed" are getting thrown out... In MarkBass defense, the MoMark modular amp system is pretty innovative (until you consider Randall's guitar system...).

I think some people buy pedals just to take pictures of them and put them on the internets.

OK maybe that's a bit unfair.

Out of the lot I'd like to try the compressor. The rest don't really appeal (the analogue octaver would if it wasn't so huge).

i'l admit that im interrested in most of these pedals, although space is an issue on my board, which is why i never got the Ashdown HyperDrive.

Loving the idea of the octaver, essentially an OC2 with extra footswitches, that could be really useful to me. - especially the Dub switch

The tube overdrive with the HPF sounds good too.
I agree that most of these pedals could do without the DI

Im worried that like all MarkBass products, these pedals will be expensive, i mean with their amps you pay for quality and light weight, but if its just a question of money, i'll never be the guy that can afford markbass.

Im almost imagining Moog pedal prices coming from these, as we're looking at a dual-tube bass OD, which'll probably put it in a similar league to the EBS Valve Drive.
We're also looking at a digital synth pedal that you can store presets(?)/change parameters on the computer via USB - is this trying to compete with the Chunk OS?

yes the pedals look cheap (like the ashdown pedals), but if they sell cheap id be really suprised.

Don't bother neither the size nor the colour if the sound really overs what I'm looking for.

For instance, I'm really interested in a good synth pedal but nothing on the market (as far as I know) seems to have more than one interesting/reliable sound preset between its sound bank registers.

Actually, I have been introducing more highs lately . It helps bring out the synthyness on the BSW. I know, off to the funny farm for me!

Different colored tape? It would allow you to hide the pedals "ugliness" too

I think it's a great idea. These filters sound awesome to me.
I'm mostly interested by the synth though.
