I was just pointing out the possibilities of course - and I think everybody knows that I don't pose as anything other than what I am.

I would be supiscious about anybody who says they are a teenage girl on the net - why are they making a point of "advertising" themselves as a vulnerable person? The figures published in the UK show that generally this is the tactic used by paedophiles to lure in similar young people. :(

This is a very serious subject - I am not joking and don't think it is a suitable area for humour.

I could easily set up another username, go and find hundreds of pictures of teenage girls and post some of them as "me" if I really wanted to!

The UK government is again today posting guidelines and information about how paedophiles target children via forums just like these - the Police say that most will adopt an "identity" which is quite false. So - middle-aged men will pose as teenage girls to lure others.

I think that basically all you can accept as true is what people actually say and that anything else like age, gender etc has to be treated as irrelevant or open to question.

Point one - I am not a paedophile.
Point two - I am most certainly a girl and since I have no need to flash my titties at anyone else, you're just gonna have to take my word for it.
Point three - if gender is so irrelevant, why am I able to wade hip deep in posts about "alleged guy's" girlfriends etc.?
Point four -
Point five - any posts on this thread by me were intended to be HUMOUROUS....you'll find it in Chambers under H. I do suggest you look it up.
Point six - I really do appreciate actually commiting some crime FIRST before the government and paedophilia are brought into a conversation with any sort of intent.
Point seven - ? Yes I know I already made that point but I felt it was SO important that I had to make it again.

(and all this because of a "girlpower" comment???) Politeness and the laws of slander forbid me to offer my own conclusions as to your very strange reaction. Doesn't seem to bother you, though.

Edit by Odie:I had to edit some of your posts here, just a reminder that there is no name calling at TB

That's harsh. And it's not true. And FWIW, I think the comment about humour was aimed at my previous post. Which is fair enough.

Duh....nobody here's posed as "a teenage girl" here. Being on the wrong side of 30, I certainly haven't and if you look at any of the twins' profiles, you'll see they have a birthdate of 1973 which makes them 30 this year too.

While your political diatribe might be mildly amusing and your irritations fairly giggle-worthy, I do suggest you get your facts sorted before you start accusing people of "posing" as either paedophiles or the bait thereof.

Can't wait for the next installment! I have popcorn at the ready... :rolleyes:Edit by Odie:Read the post, nothing was targeted at you

(Go back and look - his first rant quoted my ENTIRE post, so I think it's pretty obvious who he was getting at)

Soooo let me get this straight....I can be all but accused of lying about my gender, my poor wee innocent humourous post torn apart as the subject for frickin' PAEDOPHILIA, yet it's not "fair" to call Mr Linfield a "grumpy ol' basstard"?

Hmm, lemme think about this for a century or so, yea?

Man, if I roll my eyes anymore, they're gonna be able to inspect the back of my bloody neck WITHOUT the aid of a mirror!

Well I was making a general point and not targeting anybody in particular on this board and was entirely serious and had no humorous intent.

I do believe that "online", gender is irrelevant and don't see why saying this, makes me in any way "grumpy"?

I was talking rationally and logically about a serious subject - draw your own conclusions about who is "going off on one"?

Yes, but he wasn't talking about humour in that one... it was after my mockery that he mentioned it :)

You were not accused, and not "all but accused". It was obvious to me, at least, that Bruce was making a general point, not aimed at anyone.

yet it's not "fair" to call Mr Linfield a "grumpy ol' basstard"?

Yeah, it's not fair. I can't see that Bruce has (ever) displayed grumpiness.

Moley is right - I was replying to his post, (quite calmly) which was "humorously" portraying me as a paedophile - I could have got very annoyed about this, but I appreciated the spirit in which he posted this.

Are you naturally offensive or is this an acquired talent? To infer someone is a paedophile because she calls herself a girl is moronic in the extreme. Why not give her the benefit of the doubt? Has she said, or done anything suspicious? Or is playing bass somehow "a guy thing" and you somehow take offense that a mere woman would dare intrude on YOUR territory? How do we know you're even a bass player? Hmm? How does anyone on this forum (OFF TOPIC, meaning NOT NECESSARILY BASS TALK), know you aren't some trenchcoat wearing pervert? They don't. And by your own logic, you can't prove it.

Well, excuse me. It must have been the bit about "anybody can pose as anything and be a paedophile" stuff when all I was doing was saying "Hi" (as the title of the thread more than adequately suggests) that got my hackles up.

Call me touchy. It must be a girl thing. Oops, there I go again, intimating I'm female (and a teenager, perhaps? Did I intimate that too - ooopsy!) and laying myself open for the paedophile comments again.

Will I never learn?

Seriously - go back and read the entire thread and tell me where ANY of it lays itself open to the subject of paedophilia. Some of us "girl types" were just exchanging a little conversation. It seems perfectly okay for the guys on this forum, so what's your problem with gender on THIS thread??? Go and have a nice sticky bun and a cuppa. I'm sure you'll feel MUCH better afterwards.

I wouldn't have done it if I didn't think that you and everyone else would see I was joking.

In fact it's because I know that Bruce isn't a "grumpy ol' basstard" that I joked about it in the first place - like I said, if I thought he'd have got annoyed, I wouldn't have done it.

Oh, I see. You were replying to him but quoting me.

Yep. That makes it ALL crystal clear now. I do apologise. :p

Sweetheart, you can call yourselves a pair of pumpkins in a patch if it makes you feel good - but he was quoting me when he went off on his paedophile rant....not you.

, so what's your problem with gender on THIS thread???

This is completey ridiculous - how does saying that gender is irrelevant, mean that I have a problem with gender? It is completely the opposite!!

I was not "inferring" anything - this was simply an illustration that gender is irrelevant.

So - I am currently listening to BBC Radio 5 and they are talking about how paedophiles portray themselves as different sexes - it clearly wasn't referring to anybody on this board as I chose the example of teenage girls - I was just using the illustration that is currently on the News in the UK - where middle-aged males are posing as teenage girls.

This was just to prove my point that you cannot assume anything about gender and there is no way to prove that you are one gender or another!

As to "etc" open to question, I would certainly question a few things about you. My first would be "what crawled up your ass and died?"

How was his post offensive? Where was it inferred that anyone was a paedophile? And where did he take offense, and where was anything about intruding on territory mentioned? You say "How do we know you're even a bass player?" - we don't, that's the point - anyone could pretend to be anyone else.

Listen, Chuckle Bunny - you DO NOT EVER quote me and then start on a rant about paedophilia, much lest question as to who's telling the truth about anything, much less their own gender, and expect to get a pat on the head from me.

No, a simple apology will do fine. This was an ordinary old "hi" thread before you stomped into it.

And yes, this IS ridiculous. When chatting innocently to a fellow female board member can be blown out of proportion to this extent, it's more than ridiculous. It's ludicrous. Laughable.

I suggest you stop listening to Radio Five right now and go and have that nice cup of tea I suggested earlier.

Nope - we were talking about the humour comment. He didn't quote you in that post. He quoted you in an earlier post.

Yeah, but I was talking about the remark about humour, and he was referring to my post, like I said above.

You're percieving injury where there is none! No-one accused you of anything, and when Bruce said "This is a very serious subject - I am not joking and don't think it is a suitable area for humour." (which you seem to have taken personally) - he was referring to my post. So where's the problem?!?

But this doesn't mean anything was aimed at you - just picking up on your point that we need more females.

I was just saying that gender is irrelevant and that loads of people could come along in future and say that they are women/girls - but there is no way of really knowing who/what they are?

PLUS - why should gender be significant in music/bass playing anyway? I have had lessons from women bass players and men - makes no difference to me. If they are good players/musicians - who cares whether they are male or female?

Yes. I know. And that's the ONLY one I'm getting on him about. He quoted me. And started in on ridiculous stuff like paedophilia and how gender is irrelevant and how people can pretend to be whatever.

What happened after that, I don't give a monkey's cuss about.

Is it only me who finds this all totally stupid? Is this how you guys have fun? I was only saying Hi to another girl, for feck's sake!!! Get a grip on reality, both of you.
