Listen, Chuckle Bunny - you DO NOT EVER quote me and then start on a rant about paedophilia, much lest question as to who's telling the truth about anything, much less their own gender, and expect to get a pat on the head from me.

What? "you DO NOT EVER quote me and then start a rant about paedophilia"... Where do you get off? And no-one questioned whether you were telling the truth about anything... read his original post again - in what way was he getting at you?

I question everything - taking people on face value is much less than sensible around here - the number of "know nothing kids" who claim to have "extensive knowledge of theory", "two-handed tapping technique better then the pros" etc. far out weighs the number of people who are honest about their bass playing skills!

This was an ordinary old "hi" thread before you stomped into it.

This thread was at least civil, before you started the name-calling! And I think it's me who deserves the apology - as Moley says!! ;)

But this doesn't mean anything was aimed at you - just picking up on your point that we need more females.

I was just saying that gender is irrelevant and that loads of people could come along in future and say that they are women/girls - but there is no way of really knowing who/what they are?

PLUS - why should gender be significant in music/bass playing anyway? I have had lessons from women bass players and men - makes no difference to me. If they are good players/musicians - who cares whether they are male or female?

Hmmm, and you don't see at all how I might have taken all this personally? No? When you quoted me directly before launching the nukes etc.?

Well hell - must be a girl thang.

Perhaps, Mr Linfield, if that was indeed your intent, you might just make that clear when you feel the need to turn a simply "hiya" into a political statement. Just do that for me, will you?

Thanks ever so.

Sunshine, you can assume I'm an alien if you like - but tell me how that entitles you to start going on about misrepresentation when 1) nobody was even talking to you and 2) nobody was making any "claims" of any sort, save for mentioning their gender and 3) why are you so uptight about girls mentioning they're girls in the first place?

Then again, there's always 4) which says C A L M D O W N!

I still say you're a grumpy ol' basstard. And yes, I know that name assumes you're a bass player - sorry if I got that wrong. See how easy it is to make assumptions?

Well - this is exactly what I mean - do you understand what "irrelevant" means?

If so, then how does saying that gender is irrelevant, mean that I am "uptight" about this?

So if I say something - then you assume I "mean" the complete opposite????

Illogical captain!! ;)

Well - this is an open forum - anything that is not put in a Personal Message, is addressed to all the members. I would say the same of any of my posts - don't assume they are addressed to just one person, unless it specifically says so.

If I was adressing a comment to just one person I would use the PM facility - anything posted in a general forum like this is to be read by all - I think this is where you are going wrong!

Don't assume that everything is aimed at you - it's not!! You are not the centre of the universe! ;)

I think you need to apply this rule to yourself - I am completely calm and was when I posted everything I have in this thread - while you are the one who seems to be really annoyed and has frequently resorted to name-calling?

I know that's what it looks like! ;)

But I just find it tiresome that people seem to misread or misunderstand - they just read a small part and go off on a fit of indignation without reading it all or the context. :(

You managed to undertand what I was getting at - so why can't other people take the time to read carefuly or is it the case that we can't really make any complex points and have to go with the lowest common denominator or get misunderstood?

It's annoying when it happens, but I haven't seen this kinda thing happen much really. I mean, we have plenty of debates and disagreements, obviously, but it's usually all fine, and people don't misconstrue and take things personally in this way.

Chris A.

That bites. When I was in seventh grade a girl smashed my head in a locker and my twin just stood by and watched. I was so embarassed and hurt. I was sure she would have stood up for me since I was a weakling. But That is in the past now and we are quite close. She is so beautiful and can sing like an angel. There superfreak I let the whole world know that you have a beautiful voice.:D

Well, I'd just like to re-iterate the 'Hi' to superfunk! It ain't always like this around here, honest!;)

Thank God!!!! I am sitting here reading all of this and I am thinking that all the comments back and forth are childish. It is one thing to make an opinion but another to bash another member/suppotining member. I want to enjoy myself on here and link up with my sisters and enjoy thier likes as well. Thank you again for welcoming me.

My darling morningdove I just want to say that I came here after watching superfreak on this site while I was out there for a visit. I found out yesterday that you also frequented this site and I thought what a great way to keep connected to my sisters without running up a phone bill. I love you also morningdove. And by the way not because you are my sister I do agree with everything that you have said above.

Well it was all down to a misunderstanding - Absinthe seemed to be saying that we needed more females around here - but I pointed out that really you couldn't tell who people were in real life.

So my point was that if we got loads of teenage girsl suddenly appearing around here I would suspect that they were paedophiles "pretending", rather than anything else. But that anyway - does it really matter whether people are male or female - all you have to go on, is what they say?

Absinthe took this personaly and got all upset about it - presmably assuming I was addressing her directly, whereas I was actually making a general point to everybody on the forum.

Well ...I'm not sure about this - whether this is what TB is intended for - but it's not up to me!

I would just say that if messages are personal and not intended for everybody on the forum then you should use the Personal message facility - go to "My TalkBass" - anything that is posted in any of the public forums is assumed to apply to everybody and not just a small subset of the community.

Hi morningdove - good to see/talk to you again!

I felt that the thread needed a little coaxing back on track, and also felt I should be the one as I was the one that suggested way back that the 3 of you weer bass players!

That'll teach me to make assumptions!:)

Heads up to everyone. Keep to the topic of hello, and Hi or else this thread will be nuked. No fighting!!

I dont see anywhere in the forum rules that state none of these "posters" cant be here due to their lack of having a bass in their possesion. If they are seen making recommendations for a new amp or bass Im sure someone will point out that they are'nt probably the best source for advice. Now if they like the looks of a bass, or the color etc. and they comment on it, its fine by me.

They will be welcomed here.

I do suggest anyone using TB as a tool for chat among a very few people that they use AIM, ICQ etc. since they are much more well suited for these types of things.

Enjoy
