Well, isn't that always the case ; }

One reason I think newbies should avoid modding stuff and chasing a lot of pickups and effects is because they think something doesn't sound as good as it should, but it's just that they haven't gotten the technique and ears good enough yet.

You know, when I said poor fretwork I meant poor fretwork :-)
I've been playing a cheap borrowed bass lately. It has rounds, an action about 1/4" and trere's still some buzz. I don't think my technique deteriorated so much since mid-autumn when i switched to flats :-)

Can I get a number too? Is 1/4th of an Inch at the 12th fret high enough? I learnt to play on a cheap old warped necked P-Bass copy, high action coupled with weak pickups led to me digging in a little too hard, so now I only really feel at home on stiffer high action strings.

youre all crazy

my guitard has higher action than me, and it drives me nuts because all his fretted notes above the 5th fret wind up being too sharp, and I cant really get a harmonious "whirling" sound, unless were playing open strings.

Sometimes I'll even play a part a half step higher than him by accident, but in all reality after his intonation problems a half too high is just as wrong as the same position he is in.

well.... it is his band and there is no getting rid of him, id have to leave.... and I dont think it bothers me that much at this point.

He plays a PRS, so its capable of having a better set up. There's prob. about 3/16" between the string at 12th and the fret. Which im thinkin is quite a bit for a guitar....

Im not about to tell him to get a clue on setup, he is nearly 20 years older than me and been playing for 15 more than myself, and sometimes the old dogs dont like to listen to the young pups about things. Sometimes even about artistic input:mad:

I don't need a number because I'm not a "joiner" (my wife says my mission in life is to scatter the pigeons) but in the interest of defining "how high is high?" I will share a description I once heard about James Jamerson's bass and it's action.

Can't recall where I read this, but someone once said you would have to get a friend to help you fret low F on Jamerson's Precision.

That sounds high to me :)

If it has one of those one piece prs bridge, intonation can't be fine tuned.
