High End Acoustic Bass Thoughts/Recommendations

Thanks, I wasn't looking for a grudge match when I first posted my video, of course…I originally posted it because someone wanted to hear what the Exotica sounded like and because too many people here post "acoustic basses are a waste of time" and other nonsense.
Aphex still is my favorite preamp.

And they'll keep saying it no matter how many times and ways we prove them wrong. No worries, those of us who know, well, we know, so their loss.
I've had more people compliment me on my Exotica than my L2000.

I have the external bass aural exciter box, and I have to say, I've never quite gotten the hang or point of it - but then, I haven't played with it long enough, either. Buried in a pile of old band gear in the corner of the basement. Will have to dig it out and try with the Balor. Could be interesting.
OK, I thought so - and to be honest, I'm not missing that in the least - for my tonal goals, anyways...
A phase switch is a huge plus for any AEB going in a PA, IME...
To tell the truth, I don't know much about them.
By the way, what strings do you like?

Yeah, I like the video effect, too - and think it sounds better than I remember it the first time I saw his video... I still don't prefer it over the Breedlove sound, but it's definitely workable and fits the song he's playing...
Hitting a phase switch can make a world of difference regarding feedback and interaction with PA and monitors...
I've had great results using the coated Elixirs that come standard on Breedloves...

And the OP mentioned he'd be recording ABG with a microphone. Here's a video I created on how to do that in different ways.
I realize I am years late to this conversation, but for anyone reading this in the future, the quote above sums up the most important points of getting an ABG to project (without amplification). If you have a light touch and low action, you won't get any of these to be heard over dreadnoughts.
Conversely, if you have high action, and play aggressively, then you can get a relatively anemic Martin to run with the dreadnoughts.
I have owned so many ABG's, I have been obsessed with them for years, and have owned many of the best ever made.
