Unfortunately we don't have any information regarding this. Since Rode has merged which Aphex, none of the previous employees stayed with us and we only provide support for the models that are still in production.

Yeah, I remember seeing something - and frankly, thinking to myself that it didn't sound all that great - but I didn't want to disparage another player's offerings... However, when he started to tout that Aphex preamp as the greatest ever, I thought I'd bring it up... Yup - although if there was anyone here I'd ask AEB advice from, it would be you... When I played one of those Dean Exoticas with the APHEX preamp, I thought it sounded decent, but nothing spectacular - and the added "bells and whistles" of the preamp sounded more like I was playing thru a pedal, than just enhancing the natural sound of the bass...
Granted, my tonal goals probably aren't the same as others, but when *I* play an AEB plugged in, I'm looking to amplify the natural sound of the instrument - not turn it into something else... From there, I can tweak my EQ as desired with the LR Baggs stuff just fine....

That's what really gets me about the Balor - other than increased attack especially on the low notes due to direct pressure on the piezo, the plugged in sound seems to me very very similar to the pure acoustic sound, that's why I did a stereo record and separated the tracks, just to show off how similar they sound...
(not great playing, but hey...)
Edit: First acoustic, mic'ed with Shure KSM32, then plugged in direct.

That's pretty "acoustic sounding" - nice clarity on the low B, too... I've wanted a 5 string AEB, but haven't looked that much into it yet...

FWIW, Emerald also uses LR Baggs on the Balor, different model though. I like the dual source thing though and am considering putting it on my chinese archtop jazzbox.
Thanks - as I said before, it was only a straight DI send to the board that literally was only given a quick line check before we went on, due to circumstances - and recorded on the singer's Mom's cellphone...
I've been really impressed with Breedlove's stuff - I've owned 3 of their AEBs, and two AEGs, and they've all been really, really good... All but one of the AEBs were bought used, and that one was bought on a closeout - so I really feel like I got excellent value for my money...
I really like the Dual Source - if I have any trouble with the preamp on either of my AEBs, that's probably the way I'll go to fix it... The Stage D25 in the pic came to me with the Dual Source already installed - and the dumbasses at the out of state GC I bought it from didn't even realize it, lol... The blend option is great - it really allows you to get everything out of your instrument...
The only drawbacks to the Dual Source(IMO) are that the battery ends up inside of the instrument - so it's a bit of a pain in the neck to change, but battery life has been outstanding... and that I had to "customize" a soundhole plug for the remote volume and blend controls - but that wasn't a big deal...

I'll make a few new ones when I get the chance.
Headphones are recommended, of course.
