And I have to agree with him. Simply has to be the best preamp for any ABG.
Interesting, I'll see if I can check one of those out.

Aphex was bought out by another company, so maybe NOS if luckyI'm going to have to try one just to hear, maybe the local GC carries them...
I'd have to think they'd do it if I had the preamp. They do custom requests (for a price). Not sure the Aphex system is available separately, but probably out there somewhere... (I just popped Aphex an email about it, didn't see it on their product pages, but they obviously still make it.)
Thanks! I'll check those out after work.
Did ya get to give those clips a listen?

Nah not yet. I'm still at work. 1 hour & 45 minutes left!
No problem, just wanted to remind ya!

I thought I would post these in case anybody wanted to see them.
Thanks, mang. There's a really good chance I'll forget. Can't tell you how many times I've seen an interesting video linked somewhere on this site and completely forget about it by the time I get home. But then how do I remember forgetting? That's not quite right![]()
Personally, I prefer either one of these over the Aphex:
And ever better than any of those is LR Baggs Dual Source setup...
Never had the chance to try the Aphex circuit, but I’m now intrigued. Then I truly doubt you ever had the opportunity to use one for a long period of time. You really can't judge one in a music store for a few minutes of playing. No other preamp has the Aphex circuit and nothing sounds like it.
Just throw'n this out there...
Almost forever, since the electric bass came on the scene, 'acoustic bass' meant double bass, upright or dog house. For decades I would say I play acoustic (upright) bass.
When I see a title 'High End Acoustic Bass' I expect to see a 250 year old Italian
Please carry on, and have fun.

And unlike the 2nd video, the bass player was sharing a mic, the guitar was closer, and it wasn't a big large-diaphragm condenser (@Tim Skaggs makes an excellent point, but yeah, the bass is very nearly overwhelming in the 2nd video because of the mic (got one just like it)I'm very impressed with these videos especially the first one. It didn't look or sound like the guy was really digging in either. Sure the guitarists weren't crazy strumming but still, The Balor could be heard over FOUR acoustic guitars and vocals. Impressive. Most impressive.
I haven’t used Fishman in years, because they sounded so janky. I’ve been told that they are much better now, but I found the LR Baggs stuff and haven’t looked back.I take it the Fishman preamps aren't as well liked? Just curious.
