High End Acoustic Bass Thoughts/Recommendations

I'd have to think they'd do it if I had the preamp.
Missed out on buying a damaged Dean Exotica last year. I'm sure another will come along.

And ever better than any of those is LR Baggs Dual Source setup...

Playing into condenser mics is by far the best way to get natural acoustic tone at a decent volume from acoustic instruments, but it doesn't work well in a noisy environment, like a large room restaurant. Condensers are just too sensitive for a room full of plates, forks, & people visiting. The small directional condensers do pretty well rejecting off axis noise. They're great for pointing at the flat top or the fingerboard of an acoustic guitar, but for bass, the large diaphragm condenser as used in the second video is the only way to go. I can even get decent volume out of my Sigma fretless into my large diaphragm shock mounted condensers, but you have to be carefully quiet between songs.....

Oh, I'm with ya. It also happens to me when I see a interesting youtube video in the sidebar, but then I see something with the mindset of going back after, but then I see something else and so on and so on and never watch what I was originally interested in lol.
Then I truly doubt you ever had the opportunity to use one for a long period of time. You really can't judge one in a music store for a few minutes of playing. No other preamp has the Aphex circuit and nothing sounds like it.
Never had the chance to try the Aphex circuit, but I’m now intrigued.
I’m a huge fan of LR Baggs, and if it can improve on that, I’ll be impressed.
The Dual Source system is incredible though, and I’ve seriously thought about having it retrofitted into my Breedlove.

Almost forever, since the electric bass came on the scene, 'acoustic bass' meant double bass, upright or dog house. For decades I would say I play acoustic (upright) bass.
When I see a title 'High End Acoustic Bass' I expect to see a 250 year old Italian

I'm very impressed with these videos especially the first one. It didn't look or sound like the guy was really digging in either. Sure the guitarists weren't crazy strumming but still, The Balor could be heard over FOUR acoustic guitars and vocals. Impressive. Most impressive.
And unlike the 2nd video, the bass player was sharing a mic, the guitar was closer, and it wasn't a big large-diaphragm condenser (@Tim Skaggs makes an excellent point, but yeah, the bass is very nearly overwhelming in the 2nd video because of the mic (got one just like it)
).
I haven’t used Fishman in years, because they sounded so janky. I’ve been told that they are much better now, but I found the LR Baggs stuff and haven’t looked back.
