High end...passive...old school....simple...but not a P Bass....

I HATE to sound like some of the people do who I hate on this bulletin board, BUT...

Your request sounds like "I want to spend 2 million dollars on a the Ford Pinto of basses" or something like that. Which is of course up to you -it's your dough. BUT...

I personally think the kind of bass you're talking about is not worth much in quality/workmanship, etc. so you that's why you're not finding many options.

If you want stellar quality that's simple and you don't want to go the P-bass route, then why not build your own creation using Warmoth wood or someone else's? You're going to get exactly what you want for a lot less money and probably higher or equivalent quality.

Not really. Sure, I'm looking for a tone that I can probably get from an inexpensive bass--but, to me, the build quality and the feel are important. I always want the best of both worlds---old school tone with modern craftsmanship and attention to detail. I, personally, feel more comfortable on modern instruments but dig 'vintage' and vintage inspired tones. Maybe that is a 'niche' market, but, one could argue that all high end basses fit a niche market.

As to the Warmoth route, I've dug the instruments that I've played that were made with Warmoth parts. Nice quality for sure---but I feel a certain connection with a nice hand made bass.

There is a lot more to a bass than sound alone and sound isn't limited to a single design.

As a fellow CB owner, I'd guess nickybass has been spoiled by the ergonomics. Sure, a Warmoth might do the job, but how 'bout a bass that has a more even response, a plethora of sustain, and it's significantly lighter? What's not to love?

They were at namm...that takes place in the US, no...I saw pics!!:hyper:

But on a serious note-
I would be surprised if they went, without wanting to do business there....maybe e-mail them and ask for details.
I would also suggest,you speak with basslab-Heiko too is a very nice guy, and he does have distribution in the US if I'm not mistaken.
I'd call him direct tho(I consider this generally the best way to go about these things), to not have to run "negotiations through a middle-man.
Hotwire is another one who will do passive.
Seibass in England does passive
Lefay, another german, will do passive, I recon.

There is a cool Marleaux for sale at Luthier's Access Group. It's not passive, but it has an active/passive switch. I am so tempted by this bass, but always come to my senses before I pick up the phone.

Nicky, I've played one of those...I wouldn't be surprised if it were the same one. It was a great little bass, a very fast player. I dont' remember being floored by it though....and the resale value on those over here is terrible.
