So...The Genzler Magellan has a HPF in it?
Mesa Subway D-800 has one fixed point in it
Do the Markbass heads? SA450 LMII?
My tube preamps and led sled power SWR Stereo 800 does not?
Could this be why we like the girth of led sleds compared to class D and switchmode power amps?
Probably not. Every "lead sled" amp that I have designed has a HPF built in. HPF's are not exclusive to Class D amps with SMPS.
One important reason why HPF's have become popular (and useful) is because amplifier power has been increasing faster than most speakers REAL WORLD power handling has increased (though some manufacturers appear to through the use or creative marketing numbers). Common sense and good judgement hasn't kept up all that well with increasing amp power either. This means that amp designers must become smarter and more proactive, otherwise the increase in speakers failures would crate a bunch of other issues (including warranty issues).
No responsible amp company wants to see a player damage their speakers because they don't understand how speakers are rated, or why good judgement is more important as power levels increase.
