I've been meaning to ask you, that finish looks great on the wenge, is it an oil finish? If so, how did you manage to keep the wenge from just turning black? I've been doing some finish tests on scrap wenge offcuts from my current build, and none of them look as good as your finish does.

well i belive it was about 5 coats of tung oil with steel wool and some 500 grit sandpaper between coats also i took my pass to the old air compressor and blew out all of the sawdust that gets packed into the huge poors that wenge has. and i dont know if it says on the can but when applying apply with 0000 steel wool then wait 10 minutes er so then take a rag (like t shirt cloth, something that wont fray or fall apart, trust me i made the mistake) and polish it so it looks dry and then wait about 7 ish hours or more. and repeat. this makes it smooth. hope this helps

Well i won first place in the State competetion on the weekend but.... but....but i didnt win the grand award that i was looking to win. i could have won $4000, that wouldve totally paid all of my materials. and i lost to a large china cabinet. it was nice but i think i can do better next year. cause i reallly want that grand award. i did get my picture taken with it tho to be printed in some jouranal er something. also there were some other very bad guitars there like very bad and a 2 basses one was painted in what looked like to be truck bed liner and the bridge was on backwards. as for the bass i am working on a few things with it it needs some leveling on the frets and such. here is picture with the beast at the competition.

Hey man, not going to bad, just starting to get back to building! long hiatus during the winter due to shop flooding.

Just got my custom finished by michael dolan, so its hard to stop playing and start building again!
