Hip hop is dead (?)

I think it is mostly, but i am starting to appreiciate it more, long gone are the days of Public Enemy and Run DMC but no one will be able to top them. But surprisingly, i hate Linkin Park, I Hate Jay Z, but i quite enjoyed what they did together which impressed me greatly. But!! whats up with that guy, i think his name is Chaccaran or something, WHERE ARE THE WORDS!!?? how is "hmm hmm hmm hmmh mmhmm hmmh mhm hmmmh mhmmhh mhmmh" good?

I'm guessing that you've never been to Singapore. And so what if I like WWE? I stand by what I said.

Whatever culture they're picking up on in Singapore, we've had here for years. And there's nothing wrong with you liking to watch large, oiled-up sweaty men wearing thongs and grabbing and squeezing each other all over :)

Is Hip Hop Dead?

Absolutely not!

Is Hip Hop alive and well?

Abosulely Not!

Main stream Hip Hop sold its soul along time ago. When you have people like Justin Timberlake making "hip hop", it needs to die.
Hip Hop's gone mainstream, it crossed over, in the process it sold out.

Between the lawyers, accountants, A&R folks, marketing people, and the artist desire to drive a Bentley with 22" on it, the music got trampled.

When you listen to these guys like Nelly or Puffy, all they talk about is moving units. Even Dre sells beats for $100,000 a song, they all sound the same to me. Nothing original like "The Chronic". And those $100,000 beats sell ala "50 Cent".

JayZ, Snoop, Ludachris, Young Jeezy, etc., they follow a formula and they move units.

And let's not forget the masses who buy the music. If people demanded better music, they would get better music.

There are some artist who are true to themselves like, The Roots, Hi Tek, Mos Def, Public Enemy, Dead Prez, M1, GhostFace, MobbDeep, just to name a few.
These cats have made and are making music for the ages...

Hip-Hop isn't dead, there are plenty of great artists out. I've on and off backed a hip-hop artist for about a year and I can vouch that his stuff is very original, isn't about killing people, and certainly isn't about tons of material stuff.

My favorite artists include:

Wyclef Jean (and the Fugees)
Common
Mos Def
Redman
Lauren Hill
The Roots
Gorillaz

hmm, gotta disagree with you a bit here...

jayz (east coast NYC), snoop (west coast compton), yj (dirty south) couldnt be more different. the only formula i'm hearing is mostly from youngjeez, due to his association w/ lil jon.

IMHO, the blingy hiphop shouldnt be poo'ed upon just cause its on the radio. its just as exciting and as riveting as anything out there. and while JT's pretty annoying, timbaland has been making some incredible beats! screw kanye, whether w/ JT or ms. promiscious herself, n. furtado, its awesome hearing some unreal tracks. the guy's a freakin' genius, and its great that this kind of quality producing is on the radio. just glad its not "the matrix", or whatever the hell they're called.

but honestly, most of the hiphop i'm hearing on the radio is pretty awful. especially the dirty south cookie cutter crap. these guys couldnt drop a rhyme if their lives depending on it. just glad jayz is back on the radio to show the young ones how its properly done.

speakin' of the train, he may have been the literal "blueprint" for many of the young guns coming up, but its been at least 4 yrs. since his retirement, and he's bangin' up on 40 now. heck, you cant throw a rock two feet without hitting a young emcee copping his flow. and IMHO, his flow is probably one of the most dynamic of the recent era. nobody can get it started like jayz. he's more like an institution than formula.

and tho even snoop is starting to sound dated, yet again, his legacy is heard in most ANYTHING coming out of the west coast. guess once he stops pushin' porn, he might actually make a killer album again. *shrug*

funny you mention luda, cause his flow is to me literally like jayz and snoop in one! he has the east coast urgency w/ the smooth delivery of snoop at times.

point is, is that just cause its on the radio dont mean its worth is merely "moving units". it might actually be good. :)
