Hip hop is dead (?)

^^^ what he said. I think that good hip-hop is on the rise again. Talib Kweli, The roots, Aesop Rock, MF Doom, (etc) all original artists who have something to say. I think that if anything, we're moving back towards the way things ought to be, Good hip-hop taking the mainstream, and (c)rap being recognized for what it is.

no part of Music will ever die.
Right. Hair metal is definitely alive and kicking. :p

Hip Hop, to me has gotten too computerized. There are a few songs that come along now and then that make me want to listen to them but they are few and far between. Typically ones that feature samples of music that was recorded with real instruments (i.e. live drums, non-looped bass, etc.) is what gets me going... It just doesn't have a pocket without it and it gets pretty boring, to me at least. I'm actually liking alot of the production Timbaland has been doing lately. His stuff is musical, layered, funky, and catchy.

What about the roots or The Coup... there are few hip-hop bands out there still putting out records that are still worth listing to. Especially when they are live bands. :)

good hip-hop is as dead as good rock. There are few bands out there worth listing to, a lot of decent underground/local but mainstream is for most part, crap.

I am surprised how much hate people have for hip-hop, especially on this board. I would think musicians would be last people on earth to compare good hip-hop to crap like 50 cent, and other mainstream crap. :)

So am I. I'm always astounded by the amount of people who can't comprehend it as good music.

Forgive me for asking a question, but... if you could explain it to me, I'd appreciate it!

Why is 50 cent considered crap? Is most mainstream hip hop bad? If it is, how come it's selling?

I genuinely don't understand, so if I could get anyone to give a few words, I'd appreciate it. I'm working with a hip hop producer, although the material isn't hip hop. I just like the production and the beats, there's a lot to be learned from the production side of it... Thanks.:hiding:
