Most of the rap artists I like are bands playing real live instruments. Beasties. Roots, Black Landlord. Obviously makes for a much better live show too.

sage can/has a tendency to be kind of self righteous. his release on epitaph was terrible but if you wanna check him out at his prime check out some of his spoken word stuff. still pretty self indulgent but much better thn his raps

Now you're talking! Not a rap group, per se (although there were elements of rap in some of the tunes) but definitely one of the funkiest outfits ever.
And since you mentioned Kurtis Blow and go-go in your post:
A lot of people think rock 'n' roll is only about sex, drugs, misogyny, Satanism, etc., but they're wrong, too. Unnecessary and insulting generalizations only stifle intelligent, and even just plain fun, conversation. And the title of this thread isn't "Hip-Hop haters".I killz police all day and deals drugs all night..........
Gym Class Heroes are one of my favorites that I don't believe I've seen come up yet. I began to lose interest with their latest album, but their earlier albums (For The Kids, The Papercut Chronics) were instrumental rap in a good, very raw way. At times it reminded me of old Eminem. They diverted somewhat with a more produced As Cruel As Schoolchildren which I really liked. The Quilt was too radio-friendly for me.

My single favorite rap of all time is Kool Moe Dee's "I Go To Work." He shows off some serious skills, and I love the lyrics!

I really like the Quannum group of guys. Blackalicious, Pigeon John, Lyrics Born, etc.
Used to like Black Eyed Peas, before Fergie came along. Like Jurrasic 5, Tribe Called Quest, q-Tip, etc.

Because the thread topic states "Hip Likeres?" That to me is asking a question and therefore my answer is no! Sorry to offend you with my opinion. I'll move on now.
Not offended at all, just comments like that are pretty common in hip hop threads on TB.
