Hip-Hop likeres?

So if you made it through all of that without dying or falling asleep... how many TBers like hip hop/rap?

I grew up listening to Outkast, Tribe Called Quest, Digable Planets, Pharcyde, etc... but I started to realise that it was the music that was sampled that drew me to Hip Hop. I find myself listening to more of the old 60's & 70's funk, jazz, and soul music they sample and less hip hop. I still do listen to some just not as often as I did when I was younger.

is anyone else mad at the so far 8 month delay on the roots "how i got over?" as of now the new date is in june.. was originally october 09..

hopefully it's better than rising down, wich was a tad weak IMO. everything else from those philly boys is pure gold.

?uestlove spends 85% of his day tweeting about begging Bill Withers to come out of retirement and drop a new album...or random hip hop news. if im catching 30+ tweets a day from this dude and the album ive been waiting (and waiting) for isnt fire.. i will personally light Jimmy Fallon on fire in effigy, make a youtube video of it and spam twitter with the post until my fingers bleed for too many distractions taking away the potencey of one of the best groups in forever.

that being said they better give owen a damn shred solo in there somewhere, hes just too good for the pocket

i disagree. i think its nice they have a steady "day job" but its not like the Roots need any more face time. theyre extremely well known and if anything they have helped fallon way more than hes done for them. but album push backs and limited touring are bad things for musicians. im just saying its been a wait and i hope its all i anticipate and then some.

They spend all day in the studio NBC built for them, go do the show at 5:00, then go home.

It's not like they are never in the studio, and the album is Def Jam's & ?uest's fault, not NBC's.

Quest said he wasnt happy with the album, so he was going to work on it more. That's his fault, not Jimmy's.

Doesn't help that Quest was surprised that everybody likes the liver version of How I Got Over more than the studio version. The live version is 100000000000000x better, I don't know why he didn't realize that sooner.

Don't get me wrong though, I want the new album ASAP

yeah i dont know how he could sit behind that band all day and not realize that the more raw they are the better off things are

its not jimmys fault. it might just be that theyre busy, doing the show every night. but then again rising down wasen't their best work either.

and +1 to them helping him, more than him helping them. i only ever watch, to see them.

i think the album will be good, though.

I am not really into hiphop or rap ...
But I know a good artist when I hear one!

Yes off course the Beastie Boys can rock my boat, just as Public Enemy, BDP (the beginning of KRS One!), 2Live Crew ... and for showing that I can like some newer stuff too: Roots Manuva (you just have to LOVE those deep and blowing basses in 'Witness the fitness').

But those are those very rare gems amongst too many bleak wannabe's (but hey, this isjust the opinion of a caucasian from Europe)
