Hipster thing

Hipsters also choose a bar to call "their" bar and glare at non-hipsters who enter. Also, as I mentioned, whiskey-cokes and Camels are frowned upon.

I'm 25 and live in Southside Pittsburgh for christs sake, and I'm viewed as an outcast because I have a job and a car.

But like I said the population here is so huge that if I refused to befriend any of them I wouldnt have any friends. I didnt quite fit into the metal community when I played metal (express lack of denim jackets and chains), didnt fit into the over-classy jamband community when I tried that (express lack of fedoras and leather jackets), and oddly sink in with the hipsters, I think cuz I always bring a bottle of Jager to the party. They all love my funny Sonic the Hedgehog tattoo I have on my calf, but its always followed up with "why dont you have more tattoos?" I know people who are 20 years old and have tattood 90% of their body already. What if you want a different tattoo at some point? Not to sound like an old-head, but I dont know why any chick would tattoo their chest. You know every dude's staring at your chest, so yeah you can show off your tat, but you can never mix it up. Never change it, or update it. You're always gonna look like an early 2000's hipster, whenever the cool kids are tattooing new cooler stuff on their chests.

And the way the afford it is theres always one super-popular hipster who bought a tattoo gun on eBay and does his friends' ink.

The odd judgement they enact makes no sense.... a girl with a PBR pounder in her hand will scoff at your Miller Lite. Seeing a hipster dude call my friend a pothead while the hipster in question is rolling on ecstacy. My obscure Les Claypool albums don't fly, but their obscure hipster crap is awesome. Oh well.

If your talking about baggy pants and sagging them down to the bottom of your @$$ I thought that looked died in the 90's, or at least it did for me.

You're confusing hipster, with gangsta.

Could not resist.

We're currently working on my next video which I'm very excited about. :) I believe you all will enjoy it. Will be very different than the one above. Hipster friend will also have a starring role.

Here ya go ... everything you never wanted to know about hipsters ...

"Peacock with mustache or tattoos, if shot down write an under-appreciated song for the band you play bass in."

Lawl!

And I'm not kidding or confused about the skinny, bagged jeans:

Eh, it doesn't bother me. These trends come and go. Just do whatever you like and let others do the same.

However, I will say that I like the "hipster" thing better than the emo/scene stuff that was popular a few years ago, but that's just my own aesthetic preference. I've had hipster friends, scene friends, goth friends, etc. and they've all been nice people. I think the most important thing is to not judge a book by its cover. Such labels are mostly superficial. IMO, FWIW, etc.

The obsession with the "fixie" or fixed gear track bikes by hipsters has drawn the ire of the sport oriented segments of the cycling community. Here's one more.

It's not coincidental that I see the exact same clique behaviors both in the cycling community and the music community. It seems we have a instinctual desire to belong to a group and then **** on everyone who does not share the same ideals. Hate invites hate, that's why it so easy to make fun of hipsters. BTW hipster fashion ceased to be hipster the moment it went on sale at Target.

I was an outsider immersed in the hipster culture about a decade ago when an attractive female of their community chose me as her project. I learned they ride mopeds, like PBR (but only from a can as previously mentioned), hate all things corporate, like dudes who wear glasses (I didn't at the time and she mentioned it more than once how cute it would be if I did...), and especially LOVE weird obscure music that no one else knows. I had just come back from living in France for a year and was listening to a multi-cultural band called Manu Chao that I had heard over there, and it was apparently weird and obscure enough that she latched onto it completely, putting it on at all her parties, etc.

Lol the dreaded skinny Jeans or as I so passionately like to refer to them as
"denim leotards" "for men":D

Alright, now i don't mean to be offensive but when is this hipster thing going to be over? I'm pretty sure it started at least 6 years ago, aren't we due for a new fashion? Any anthropologists here on talkbass?

Not soon enough. In fact, the hipster epidemic is only growing in San Francisco as more and more areas gentrify (now mom and dad can pay their kids excessively high rent in even more areas of the city). At the very least, the entire Mission, Duboce, Lower Haight areas have been completely overrun with the little clones.

It may be a little dated but still applies I think. PBR, Fixed geared bikes, and general conversations with them is what annoys me the most. Oh and turning an otherwise good product into some trendy hipster trash(Older BMW's/Volvos). It also seems that every single one that owns a digital SLR has their own DIY professional photographer business which is a joke. As someone who works with a lot of photos and has a family member who is truly a professional photographer it is quite hilarious seeing some of the pictures and getting people who complain about them being professional but the picture not being right because the photographer has no idea about crop proportions for different sizes or just general composition skills.

I agree with most of the hipster stereotypes except the PBR bashing. If you're going to buy good beer then go all out. If you're going to buy a cheap 6, 12 or 30 pack (whatever pack) then spend as little as possible...it all tastes bad! Why spend 3 or 4 more dollars on budweiser when it tastes just as bad (arguably worse!).

Also you can be a hipster and be broke without any help from mommy and daddy. You'll just be that loser who is perpetually mooching off of friends while you update your instagram photo album.

You can be a loser no matter what social group you hang out in. As long as you ****ing have a job after you get out of school you're ok in my book.

I like hipsters.

Not because I actually like them - their pretentiousness and snobbery piss me off, but they keep people preoccupied complaining about them instead of metal heads. And before you start to disagree with me, those "metal kids" many of you complain about are actually larval hipsters of the emo variety. Give them time to get out of high school, and they'll find obscure indie music to listen to and will grow waxed mustaches and knit caps with fuzzy balls on the ends.
