Hofner-(not just Beatle Basses)-Group Part 2

thomann is the best selection and price (no tax, very cheap shipping, also the prices are insanely cheaper than US prices like hundreds of dollars cheaper due to not having to import).

I'm off work for the next 2 weeks and the family have gone to the seaside, leaving me to watch over the house and feed the cats.
So I brought my '64 500/1 & Rumble 200 combo downstairs for company, & the Hofner Violin Bass book on top of the amp for light reading. :D:thumbsup::cool:

A good friend of mine who apart from being a good bassist is also a luthier, came round to see me today to do a little work on my '64 500/1.
Since I bought the bass back in 1988 the fret slots on my bridge were, two long strips of fret wire which was done by the previous owner I guess. With next May being my basses 60th I wanted to return it back to original spec or as close as. I wanted to keep the original wooden bridge & not buy a new one.
He used the fret wire that was already there and going off pictures from the Hofner book, started cutting them to a rough size and position I think it came out looking OK. And all he charged me was £10 and the last thing to go on the bass will be a set of, Pyramid Gold Flatwounds :thumbsup:.

Yeah, I've been using them for 30 plus years now. They're my favorite all-around string, nevermind the fact I've had an endorsement deal with them for about ten years.

Obviously, they're designed with the various tailpiece lengths the Hofner basses have had throughout the years. You can't go wrong with in my opinion. They sound nothing like the LaBella sets - due to them being nickel instead of stainless steel.

Thank you for your answer & I'm looking to get my '64 500/1 back as close to original before May 24th 2024, when my old bass turns 60 and want to put the strings on it that probably came on it back when it was new.

Afternoon everyone I'm hoping you may be able to identify these strings. On my Black HCT 500/1 it had a set of flatwounds with black silk ends at both ends I thought these could be Dunlop's, I defiantly know there are not Hofner HCT as I have a set on my '64 500/1 & they are not as smooth to the touch.
I swapped the strings over this morning and am curious as to what brand they are, thanks in advance.

Those could be either LaBella or Pyramid's new "reissue" set called "Vintage '63" (they're identical to the green silk ended strings). But, more than likely they're the LaBella set.
