I have a strong bias for the '64 Hofner 500/1 here's mine with my black HCT 500/1/ I am going to be putting some Pyramid Gold flats with the green silk ends on my '64, just to bring it back to how it may have left the factory all those years ago.

anyone know what gauge pyramid strings come with the 64 reissue? Dang, i broke an A string at a gig today.

(my newish) hofner saddle pieces in the bridge look a little oxidized - they’re a little green. hope it didn’t corrode my string because it busted at the bridge)

A quick couple o pictures of my 1961 - 1964 case, with my '64 500/1 inside. The case is going to a upholster to have the outside one only, the green felt inside is being left as it is
P.S The new cases offer far more protection than the '60's versions :thumbsup:.

@centralbeatbass the catalog is confusing, but that is incorrect, on page 16 in the catalog you see the flatwound beetle bass set has .40 .55 .70 .100

also popping on to say i've owned my 65 Club for about 3 years now gigging non-stop with it and it's still my main player and one true love!

I searched this thread and have only seen a few mentions of D’addario Chromes (medium) on a hofner. I use Chromes on all my long scale basses and am comfortable with the higher tension. My club bass has TI flats which sound great but they feel too loose.

Can anyone provide feedback on Hofner with Chromes? Much appreciated in advance.

I'm pretty sure I have GHS chrome flats on one of my Hofners. It has been awhile since I bought them. They are not low tension for sure. I like them, but I usually have roundwounds on my Hofners.

I had a set of D'Addario medium scale Chromes on my Hofner HCT 500/7 Verythin for awhile and liked them well enough. The tension worked just fine for me (I'd had a well-used set of TI flats on the Verythin previously). I preferred the feel of the Chromes, though I do use TIs on other basses. After a few months and a couple of gigs, I was reminded (again) of what I don't like about Chromes and took them off, replacing them with short scale DR Legend flats, which I'd never used before. Now broken in, the DRs are making me happy, not as bright as the D'Addarios and a bit higher tension.
