Nice bass, @Doctor Intrepid. I have a Beatle bass of 1970-73 vintage that's very similar. It has the Hofner logo on the pickguard, and maybe some other differences from yours.
What do you think of the blade pickups? I rather like the sound of mine.

I like them, but I think they may need to rewound. I say this because the signal is a bit week. Otherwise, tone for days!

Punchier than the other two pickups. I sometimes play the bass with just the middle pickup. I like to mod a bass in character with the original design to be a bit more versatile than it was, but still sound the same when called upon to do so.

Yeah, that's why I think they need some work. I'm not sure if I will do it, though. It's become a bit of a case queen. I play my 63 reissue fretless and HCT Cavern the most.

Yeah, I love the tone on my HCT Cavern, and if I use only the bridge pickup then the tone is more like a P.

Good news for me...My right hand has recovered sufficiently from my stroke that I can now start playing the closer string spacing of my Hofner Ignition Club bass. I have greatly missed playing it during the last 10 months. It may take a while to become as proficient with it as I was before but it will happen.

Looked up this thread because I just ordered a Hofner Ignition violin bass from Sweetwater.

While I look forward to getting the bass, the best part of this thread are your posts mongo2. Pretty inspiring the way you made the gig just a few days after your stroke. Great news on your continued rehab.

Thanks it was a happy coincidence of timing that Chicago Music Exchange had it at the same time by bank account had the funds.
The tone seems a bit richer to me but the best part is intonation has been pretty much set and forget while my 62 reissue is a never ending challenge.

Am trying to find a good set of roundwounds for my Hofner bass, have used flats but want a more aggressive, brighter tone, any suggestions for a good set? Am using Hofner CT roundwounds at the moment and I like their brightness but they lack a little meat to their tone

Thanks I will give them a try , other suggestions welcome also, I think rounds will be good on this bass but the Hofner cheapo ones are probably not the best way to find out

I'm using La Bella white nylons on mine. Love the tone! I also have some GHS boomers and flats on some of mine as well as the stock Hofner strings on my HCT. TBH I prefer the stock Hofners over the GHS boomers.

I scoop my tone, so that might be part of it. It may be due to string size. My GHS strings are thinner and seem scratchier

Great light weights on your Ignition Clubs. Your Galaxie is reasonable at 7lbs 12 oz. also.

Oops, I made (and corrected) a typo. The weight of my Galaxie is actually 6lbs 12oz so it's even more reasonable for me.

Fair enough, that makes sense then, the Hofner strings are not bad, nice and bright but they seem to lack that lower mid girth to them, I was very surprised that I was able to get such an aggressive tone from them, rounds sound surprisingly good on a Hofner
