Anyone using Rotosound roundwounds on their Hofner? If so how do they sound? Nice and bright?
I have a set of Rotosounds waiting for my Hofner, I know from previous experience with Roto's that they sound great on some basses, others not so much, I could just put them on my Hofner but the set of rounds on there at the moment are only a couple weeks old so I think they probably have a good 3-4 weeks life left on them

Your strings only last five or six weeks? What the heck are they....Roto 66's?....

View attachment 3450252 I don't remember if I'd previously asked for an inclusion number. Here are my Hofs that have been a blessing since back surgery over a year ago. Both have rounds that sit quite well in the mix. I use a variety of GK configurations, depending on the venue.

Diggin' the blue Club! A pity the majority of Höfners come in boring old burst (the classic look, I know I know...).

The Ignition series does come in different colors. I have two ... here is a photo of them next to my Rogue VB100 in classic sunburst.

I found out the other day that Hofner only sent the US 100 of each color in 2018 (my two are from 2018) in both the club and violin basses. IN these colors, Red, White, purple, green, orange and silver. I may have missed a color or two..... The light blue had a little larger run but not by much. This came from the US distributor/

Lookin' good, but I currently see none of those available anywhere here in Germany, neither used nor new... Lucky Americans!

Only Musician's Friend will ship to Canada, so the selection can be limited. You may want to check Marnic Instruments in the Netherlands. They got some cool Hofner's and customize the CTs.

I see that crayon box there .. That's just a normal Sunburst that you colored with your Crayolas !!!

Really..... There is something different when playing a Hofner that is not the normal color !!! It's more fun somehow !!!! I don't know why... but it is !!!

Ok, had the roundwounds on for a week or so and really liking them so far, might try some Roto's once these Hofner rounds start to die, funny thing is with the brightness of these strings I find myself boosting the treble, switching on the tweeter and engaging the bright switch on my amp (so a total of +28db at 10khz) to make full use of the tone of these strings, very untraditional Hofner tone but sounds great

Ok, have put the Rotosound roundwounds on, was gonna wait longer but curiousity got the better of me, so far so good, I have not experienced the strange overtones on the E that some people have reported although to be fair I rarely play above the 5th fret on the E on any bass, the tone so far is good, not as aggressive as I have heard people say, the tone is actually less bright than new Hofner hct rounds but there is more midrange grind than the Hofner rounds which are a little scooped. Hopefully I don't lose too much high end as these break in.

My apologies if this is not the correct or appropriate forum but my question is: Where do you 500/1 bassist place the thumb of your fretting hand? I rest mine on the top edge of the neck pickup but was recently told not to do so, to keep the thumb "floating", but I found that difficult to do.

I use the front pickup myself. Some like the floating thumb, but I'm not into it. I don't see the need for that technique, but others may disagree. Lots a player's use a pickup as a resting spot for the thumb. Some use the bridge pickup, and some the neck pickup and some use a P bass pickup. So it is a widely accepted technique. So I don't think using a pickup as a thumb rest is an issue, and which pickup you use can depend on the tone you want. Nonetheless, my plucking hand does wander sometimes so that I can change the tone. That is also a widely used technique.

I assume you mean your plucking hand and not your fretting hand. The sound I want from my Hofner comes from plucking at the end of the fingerboard or over the neck pickup so I rest my thumb on the side of the fingerboard/neck over the body to facilitate that.

I also like to rest my thumb on the end of the fretboard when playing figure style. I do occasionally use a pick in which I lightly palm mute with my hand resting partially on both the bridge and strings.
