Holy crap you guys.

Y'all want to hear my old paramedic story about the time this girl came into the ER complaining of ear pain and the Doc found a big ol' cockroach in her ear canal?

My Uncle John was a Navy Corpsman (medic?) during WW2. Unfortunately for him, he was part of the attack on Iwo Jima. Hs worst memory? Not combat wounds but a centipede or some sort of freaky long bug in a guy's ear...

heh heh, I did the same thing with a plant seed when I was 4. Took 3 different doctors and about 5 hours of labor to get the thing out.

My parents must have taken me to the same ER when I put a navy bean in my ear -- after sitting for several hours, the doctor took about three minutes to pull it out.

Does anybody else remember that song popular in the early 1960s, "Beans in My Ears"?

I do I do!

Sick bastage...:D

My partner and I are dropping off a patient in the ER, walk by one of the exam rooms on the way out and the ER Doc is in there with some young hottie on the table and see's us walk by.

He asks us to hold up a second. That's never a good thing because Paramedics are kinda the bouncers of the medical profession.

He tells me what you already know and wants us to help out if needed.

Doc is doing the ear scope thing checking it out, and say's the famous Dr's "Hmmm." The girls asks "what is it?" Doc say's, "you don't want to know just lay real still and I'll get it out"

He tries to irrigate it out with some saline solution and that just annoys the roach and it starts to move.

At that point, the girls knows that whatever is in her ear is alive and moving around and she completely and totally freaks out. (This is also my, "whats the worst freak out you've ever seen story).

She jumps up off the table hysterical and starts clawing at her head ripping chunks of hair out with her bare hands, bouncing herself off the walls, knocking stuff over...Like I said, total melt down. Nothing working but the lizard brain.

My partner and I chase her around the exam room corral her up and get her restrained back on the table, by then the entire ER staff is in there holding her down starting IV's getting her loaded up with Valium and Versed (an amniesiac so she won't remember any of the terror trauma) and Doc goes about taking the roach out in pieces with a pair of alligator forceps.

10 or so minutes later it's all over and we spend the next hour or so explaining to her over and over again what happened to her hair and why her head hurts so much. That's the fun of Versed. No long term memory. Every 5 minutes it's "What the hell happened?"

Good times...good times.

Versed huh? I can think of a few "mornings after" where I really really REALLY could have used that stuff. Meh live and learn
