Try Courtney Barnett. Not a solo act, just uses her name for her band. Debut ep was around 2012 I think.
She's one of the more fresh talents out there imo. She did some work with Kurt Vile which was excellent.

It's just good for the soul. He's super talented and can throw down a nice bassline, too.
Another absolutely holy favorite. Los Bitchos are mostly instrumental modern surf pop. Friggin' awesome in my irrefutable fact-based opinion. They got a small kick start a couple years ago when one of their tunes was in a beer commercial but they are pretty under the radar. This band puts me in a good mood.
Pretty new. I would bet a rent payment these guys either light up the Grammys or they implode within a couple years. Wonderful new take on Americana. I love this song in particular.
one of my absolute favorite bands since discovering them two years ago:
Elephant Stone, think Neutral Milk Hotel but from another country. There are other countries and Canada is one of them, Quebec is really one of them. Sort of psychedelic revival. Dig it.

OK, not a lot of bass guitar action here. But I figure if I can quote Tiga in my sig I can post a song. If I have a tough day at work or traffic is dragging me down Tiga turns that frown upside down. He gets me caught dancing in my car at least a couple times a month!

I totally stumbled onto these guys. Saw them live. I think not singing in English keeps them hidden here but who cares. They rock.
Welp, I guess I'm into Mexican post-punk now.
Sidenote: Saw Mdou Moctar live a couple years ago and can't wait for the chance to see him again
