Horrible Lead Guitarists

I understand what you're going through and I can totally relate to this topic. I was once in a band where the lead guitarist(who happens to be one of the founding members of the band along with the drummer) is really terrible. he has a tendency to play notes that he thinks it right when obviously it's wrong. he totally sucks at playing decent solos. he couldn't even play rhythms to save his life. he was really that bad. my brother and I did try to teach him how to play certain songs correctly, but he is just too thick-headed to play the parts right and he play them wrong again and again. it frustrates us every time he does that. I mean he's a nice guy and all, but seriously he sounds like he's losing his edge. but then the group disbanded(due to dissatisfaction with the band and developed interest in forming new bands) and my brother and I wouldn't have to deal with his bad playing ever again.
LOL this.
Kids need to start picking up real guitars when they're very young, not just be "guitar heroes." The problem is guitarists have gotten very lazy and they want to strum acoustic songs.
Take the drummer and find a guitarist who can play a solo and a real singer...
Go now and don't look back...

I'm the bassist in my band, but I'm also a much better at guitar than our guitarist. I'm always very humble, very positive, and very encouraging everytime the issue of skill level amongst the band members is brought up.

here is a demo of a song where I played all the guitars and wrote the guitar solo. its called "Luna". I also did some drum samples. I think it turned out well for a demo.

I apologize for sounding so blunt. But there comes a time in everyone's career, when I have to ask myself, are the rest of my bandmates progressing as I am? Or am I bypassing them in my skill level, and need to move on to continue to grow?
There are people who reach a certain level, and they don't even realize they've peaked out, they're content with the skill level they play at.
There are the others who say, I have to move on and find other musicians that challenge my skill level so I can grow and improve.

You guys need a lot of work.
The whole band's timing needs some serious work, first and foremost. If you cannot keep time you can never expect to solo.
The guitarists need to learn some better phrasing for solos, again they need some serious timing work.
The singer could stand to learn how to sing.
You guy aren't the worst band I have ever heard but I certainly wouldn't see you twice or ever invite you back onto one of ours shows.

I will be kind but I agree with others the music is all over the place and doesn't really speak to me at all. The vocals are boring and plain bad. As for the guitarist it could be simply the case of they can't play lead guitar or play it well enough to do it in a band.You could retool or fix the issues, march on or bail...it's up to you.
I understand where you are we all have been there before. I like sloppy indie rock but just don't get this at all..sorry. BTW I have played the Outpost in the past as well. Peace.
uh oh... is it bad that that recording didn't sound that bad to me? Sure, the timing was off, but as for the picking, what was so wrong about it? I never learned much by means of music theory, so it could be coming back to bite me in the butt

Added: Look, I really try to be constructive in my post replies and not just post the first snotty thing I can think, even though I thought that was totally hilarious. But when you're battling an obvious lack of talent with the inability to tell as to whether your playing is bad and/or in tune or not, combined with a complete lack of any desire to improve or put any effort into practicing your instrument- well it's just a losing battle. In a band situation you're only as good as your worst player. Time to improve your own situation if you can't improve the band.
It's not just guitarists. I play in a horn band and the horn players are great readers of music but not great at playing or refining what we've been rehearsing for over a year.
If I took away their sheets, they'd be lost.

For some players, being in a band is just a social thing. In our case, they are nice folks but, it's about as good as it will get.
It's a shame because we have great singers who can 3-part very nicely. They are the reason we have any traction.
I am always looking for another opportunity.

Not meant as an insult. I have to agree with some of the posts here; its not just the guitarists, all sections need to improve.
Well, I listened to the clip(s) and didn't find them tremendously ear-splitting, but I agree with the statements that the timing, overall, could use improvement.
As far as your original question, there's nothing you can do. As was stated, they either have it or they don't, and if they don't they have to WANT to do better and make it happen. It's out of your control as far as the guitarists. You can only control what you do.
Yeah, I suppose after 4 years you either have to accept it or make another decision.

well I can't really agree with most of you about the vocals. I think our singer has a decent voice. He just needs to work on his live performances. will probably take him off guitar and find a new guitarist that does everything.
our drummer might be decent but he has a HORRIBLE work schedule. only available sunday nights and even chose not to show up last practice because he wanted to watch a football game.
