Horrible Lineups

i saw set your goals, big d at the kids table, and alexisonfire open for anti-flag. though all directed at hip teenagers, those are all gravely different crowds.

i saw a local rockabilly/honky tonk band open for wolfmother once. i was thoroughly confused.

authority zero, beat union, whole wheat bread, and some horrible girl band played together one night.. and it was like they found every minority band possible to open for authority zero.

im sure there are more.. i just cant think of them

I saw Nine Inch Nails and Soundgarden at Molson Park in Ontario, Canada in the 90s. NIN was the last in a long line of bands that day, before Soundgarden as the headliner. NEVER go on after NIN. Both are/were great bands but wow, NIN ruled and Soundgarden just couldn't follow that act.

I never played in any terribly mismatched gigs. Unless you consider "Primus-y" plus Japanese noise plus Brazilian metal plus DOA a bad match. I thought it worked out ok.

Seen them. I'd take Sound Garden any day over NIN.

Lalapalooza had some mixed up acts. When I went in 96' they had Metallica, Devo, Ramones, Rancid, Soundgarden to name a few.

Saw that same Anti-Flag tour in Philly and DC. Im a big A-F and Big D fan, set your goals wan't to be bad. Alexisonfire were awful and the crowd didn't seem to like them very much. A lot of boos and get the f off the stage etc.....

Van Halen opening for Eddie Money/Chaka Khan/The Stones in '79 in KC - VH got crushed in the mix, but next up Eddie Money was crystal clear...makes one wonder...

At least Billy Preston played with Chaka and The Stones...

I was supposed to see Alice in Chains open for Metallica around 95'. Lane Staley went into rehab a week before the show and they got Candlebox instead. I didn't know til' I got there. Really started to wish I'd come about an hour and a half late.
I saw this same tour, except it was like an outdoor festival date with Fight (Rob Halford) and Suicidal Tendancies on before Candlebox, Alice in Chains, and Metallica. I was severely disappointed when Alice in Chains canceled, as it was my entire reason for buying the ticket, but was amazingly impressed with the way Candlebox rocked up their sound for the show. I saw Candlebox again a few months later with a girlfriend on a theater tour and they were totally wimped out by then.

My band is on the heavy side of hard rock, and we're commonly paired with either a bill full of death/thrash metal, or one of high school emo/screamo bands. Happens all the time, just because that's what there is the most of around here.

As soon as i read that, i checked to see if you were from NE Ohio. And you are. You forgot the dozens of Mushroomhead ripoff bands :hmm:

We called about an ad in the paper advertising "talent show for bands, $1000 grand prize". Signed up, paid the fee, and show up to a huge banner proclaiming "Cleveland's version of Showtime At The Apollo". We were as you might imagine, the only metal band and only white people in the whole place. We got through two songs before we bowed out gracefully amid the catcalls and boos.

ive got a real vendetta against all you aussies.. you get to see the living end several times a year.. we might see them once every 4 or 5 years

sorry.. the mention of big day out just reminded me of that fact.

I've seen them twice, they're fantastic live.

Second time they headlined a festival I played at (Falls Festival) on NYE and brought in the new year... there's a couple days I'll never forget.

My old band, who played really really experimental stuff(read: way to many effects and VERY distorted bass, that at almost any point was two competly different melodies going on) played with a very simple sounding pop punk band that were friends with. Our whole set was just the band going crazy, and pretty much every single person there just staring at us blankly. I had a really good time. :)

Not the weirdest lineup but:

Turbonegro
HIM
Metallica

People loved Turbonegro, but when HIM got on, the crowd went silent. Even between songs, and there was a massive stampede of people running for the beer tents. This was a stadium that can take 40.000 people I think, and during HIM's set, I had no problems just walking right up to the stage for a prime spot for Metallica. I think Ville Valo (lead singer) knew they weren't appreciated because he just stood there on stage with his hands in his pocket looking bored out of his mind, sang the songs, and left.

Well, after 45 minutes of HIM's whining, Metallica sounded even more awesome.
