Is this just another cheapo Chinese ripoff of a Helix running a reverse-engineered version of someone else’s stolen firmware?
I don't know. Is it?

Sure, buy one of these now for a bit of budget short-term gain, but in ten years time the companies who are doing all the innovating will be being strangled out by others who have no R&D costs.
Strong accusation.
Do you have anything to concrete back up what you're inferring about this particular product and company? Or are you just talking off the top of your head about it?
Doesn’t sound like an accusation to me, it sounds like a question.
Big question....who's got, or getting one and how does it sound with a bass?

It’s definitely something I’d want to try out before I’d ever consider buying one. Most multi effects I tried sound really cool at first. But most I’ve had access to rapidly lose their luster for me after a closer and more prolonged listening once I get them home. And considering what I’ve got around me for music stores (who won’t even let you unbox let alone try out an effect pedal) it’s highly unlikely I’ll ever be getting one.
I know that MOOER was bagged red handed in a software copyright infringement case, stealing from EHX. The speculation about Hotone comes from "internet talk" that Mooer and Hotone are closely related family companies, discrete though they may be. Even if so, until Hotone is caught with their hand in the cookie jar, it is still pure speculation that they're guilty of anything. Software infringement is always worth keeping an eye on, but always innocent until proven guilty, no matter what the circumstantial evidence looks like. This type of infringement seems to be pretty straightforward to prove.
the main thing that’s putting us at a global disadvantage as far as innovation goes is the fact we’ve dropped the ball.
so many people just assume innovation on the digital front is still the exclusive domain of American companies long after we’ve lost our exclusive lead and are now rapidly losing what edge we have left in so many technical and scientific areas. You can thank our companies and their management for that.
Been reflecting on this 'intellectual property theft / poor corporate behaviour' and I’m not really seeing too many 'pure angels’ in the commercial world out there!
A lot of online stores have a tryout grace period and return policy. What is your situation for using modelers? Gigging? Home use only? Serious recording or home recording?
Look forward to a review and maybe some clips? Things have been pretty quiet for awhile now regarding the Ampero...I just ordered one and will review here when I get it.
I’ve been trying different multi effects lately but don’t want to spend over 500. I’m hoping this will be a fair compromise on features vs value.
I’ve never liked single stomp boxes, prefer being able to save and recall several settings on each effect. I’m not picky about modeling either, as long as it sounds decent I don’t really care if it actually sounds like the original. I just want a single compact unit I can take anywhere and use on any rig.
