Houston help needed

All I can say is, completely ignore Highway 290 as a form of transportation when looking for a place to live. 77008 puts you right at the end of it, but don't be fooled. It is hands down THE worst highway in Houston. There are also plans to widen it, which means it will be even more useless for another 5-10 years. Katy/Spring/Woodlands/Cypress will be all an hour commute to that spot. Just the plain truth.

It's ok occasionally...

And by occasionally I mean at 2 in the morning on a wednesday night after a five hour band practice that ended with the drummer jumping over a balcony and getting a concussion...

But this is the price I pay for practicing in Cypress.

Just found out...The new office location is 77008.

ok...so after some research, we've discovered that traffic is, in fact, potentially worse in Houston than in Philly...
Living in the Katy or Humble areas would mean a >1 hour commute for the missus.
So we are looking at the Jersey Village area...
Any thoughts guys?

See aforementioned comment on the cursed highway 290. Although it looks closer on the map, you didn't reduce the commute time AT ALL. 1 hour commutes are standard in Houston if you want to live in a nice neighborhood outside the Beltway.

I average 45min. to an hour from my home in Cypress to Downtown, which is roughly the same distance to your wife's work if I recall. If flexible work hours are an option, leaving at 6am does get you there quicker.

I live in the Pearland area (288 south). I can get to downtown Houston in 15 minutes, but that's with no traffic, and to the Medical Center in about 10. Highway 288 is the last undeveloped highway out of Houston. Now that the Sam Houston Tollway has been completed it's booming. There are tons of new neighborhoods going up all over the place.

There's also the Brazos Bend State Park down south off of 288. We go hiking there a lot to see the aligators. Not any real hills to speak of but lots of trails.

sweet. thanks for the tip. maybe i can break out one night during my visit and grab a beer.
Also if yer willing to drive out to Tomball (less than 20 minutes from your new place most likely) there's a great bar called Gary's Spot, or The G-Spot as his friends call it. He's definitely a friend to the musicians, and though his stage is kinda goofy it's a blast to play there.
