Houston help needed

Humble is nice, but to where you have shown on the map it will not really be any better than Cypress. Which is where I live. I work at I-10 and the beltway on the west side. From 290 and Barker Cypress to work can take 30 minutes to an hour and a half depending on when I leave and the weather.

FYI the locals call it umble.

OK, now I am hijacking my own thread...

I am in Houston! or rather, Humble.

Now the important stuff...where would y'all recommend going for the better jam nights?

and...

what is the correct spelling? is it "y'all" or "ya'll"?

l8r,
lenny
Avoid Java Junction at all costs (except on June 20th, my band has the misfortune of playing there that night). Gary's Spot in Tomball isn't too far from you, and Gary's a very cool guy. Um... Beyond that, I can give you the names of all the usual places, Walter's on Washington, The Engine Room, Fitzgerald's, The Meridian, Warehouse Live, Scout Bar, Numbers...

I'm not too familiar with the bars that have live music so I can't help you there.

i played in fitzgerald's once. their stage upstairs is pretty nice, down stairs by the bar not so much. they have awesome hot dogs though :)

Never had the hot dogs before, need to give 'em a shot. As for the stages, upstairs is definitely where you want to be. Downstairs usually has a horrible sound guy and the stage is less than accommodating...

so i am thinking about hitting the jam at 'the big easy' tonight...thoughts? (it's close to the heights, fwiw)
Actually never heard of it, though I live near the heights. Let us know how it goes.

I lived in Houston for a while and worked downtown. The one thing you need to look into is what areas flood more often.

There was mention of Sugarland and Richmond area is nice but the commute good be really tough. IIRC, Houston is about 50 miles across and densely populated. Traffic at certain times of the day is a nightmare.

There was a good commuter bus service for business hours into downtown. The one-lane HOV lane was interesting.

Do a little research and you may want to live far enough away from the chemical plants as there were many mornings that the news would warn everyone to "avoid" going outside and keep the kids out of the parks b/c there has been some sort of chemical leak.
